I've waited long enough!

Post by schwammy »

Mr. Botwright's recent announcement that he now offers those little black metal slides on his jackets cinched it for me -- I finally ordered my first Wested. It's a Raiders jacket in the authentic Italian lamb, or 'seal brown nappa,' as my sample swatch is labeled. I looked up 'nappa,' and it's defined as a 'plant with an elongated celery-like head of broad stalked leaves used as a vegetable in east Asia.' Not sure what that has to do with leather, but I'm very eager to receive my jacket nonetheless.

I asked for a #5 nickel zipper, which is a smaller gauge than the zips I've seen on other Westeds, but looks more accurate to me. For the rest I think I just kind of followed the Chris King specs, a lot of which seem to be almost standard procedure now. I did take MK's advice and ask for an extra inch of space under the arms to facilitate easier putting on and taking off. I can imagine how difficult it would be to try to remove a fitted jacket while driving a car. Hard enough in my Flight Suits jacket, which I ordered back when I was still operating under the hallucination that I wear a size 40 instead of 38.

I ordered from Peter over the phone -- very easy indeed. Total cost ended up being less than $265. Supposed to be about three weeks until delivery.

The one thing I dislike about ordering Indy gear is that once I've placed an order, I find myself wishing away entire weeks. And I hate that, because life is too short and too precious for anyone to go around wishing away long periods of time.

Well, all I've got to do is glance at my 3-year-old and I'm back to wishing time would stand still.

How long ago did you order it?
I placed an order on the 7th of August and it came in just two days ago.

I like the way you articulated that, schwammy. It' so true. The jacket is important but we have to keep things in perspective as what is truly important.

Let us know when you get it.

He did for me. I asked for and received a sample of Italian lamb and the old lamb so I could compare the two. Later I asked for a sample of Italian goat, which I didn't receive, but I had pretty much decided on the lamb anyway. I hate to pester vendors about handouts unless I'm intent on buying something, especially someone as busy as Peter. He's supplying costumes for two different films right now in addition to trying to keep all or us happy. Once I get my jacket, I'll be glad to pass along my samples to somebody, if anyone is interested.

I don't recall exactly which day it was, but it was roughly a week ago. So you had to wait about five weeks, eh? Well, I'm sure it was worth the wait.

Congrats pal! Still hope you can make it up here, and if your jacket arrives, I'd love to see it in person. I'd like to compare FS's new Seal Chrome Goat and Wested's new authentic colors to see how close they are together.

I actually was in your neighborhood last week, Mike, but it was such a brief trip that I didn't get a chance to call anybody. I'm hoping to be back in October, depending on whether I can remain caught up at school.

Ummmm... whoops. So I had one in front of me and didn't see it for the nose on my face (or something like that)? Probably because there were so many people on that ship dressed like Indy or something... Besides, I didn't get my FS until we got home. Next year we'll have to get a conference room for everyone to put everything they bring on display for a giant Indy Gear photo shoot. :)

Schwammy - sorry we missed ya pal, let me know for October....

Schwam,

Not to nitpick, but I think that was me... unless MK said it as well. Anyway, I really wanted to post that you're going to love this jacket once it arrives. I'm thrilled with mine. I've enjoyed the break from the heat an humidity this week and have been wearing it every day!

OK, so does that make the wait any more bearable?

You may have said it about the sleeves as well, Mike (not you, Mike Helde; the other Mike). I just remember hearing it from the Mike known as 'MK' in a PM (Michael Key, not Mike Marosy or Mike Helde). Hey, we need a few more guys named Michael around here, as well as a few more members with screen names like 'Indy Jones' or 'Doctor Indy Jones' or 'Dr. Indiana Jones' or 'Dr. Henry Jones jr.' or 'Dr. Jones jr.' Can we put a moratorium on variations of that name? We know you want to be Indy -- everybody here wants to be Indy; that's why we dress like him. But if everybody here is named "Dr. Henry 'Indiana' Jones jr." or some variation thereof, not only will we all be dressed identically, literally nobody will be able to tell us from each other.

Sorry, time to take my Ritalin.

Darn, just when I was thinking of switching my screen name to IndyMikeMichael Jones, Jr.! Oh well, guess I'll stick with the tried and true.

And even if you didn't hear it from me, it's good to know that great minds think alike... or maybe it's just a "Mike" thing?

Hey, we've got "The Other Jones" here, so maybe I'll change my name to "The Other Mike" - ha! 8)

But I agree with ol' Schwam, we've got a ton of Dr-Indiana-Indy-Henry-Walden-Jones-JRs around. Reminds me of the QM... the last day right before the group shots one of us said.... "there's someone dressed like Indiana Jones...." It just took me as really funny!

Just as long as someboy doesn't get even MORE confused, because I'm 'Michaels-son',, and probably older than any of the Mike's here.  Regards. Michaelson

I dunno, I got a chuckle out of "MichaelDad" in another post... with offspring on board now, you may have to switch your moniker.

Nah. William (son-in-law) got a kick out of being referred to as 'Michaelson-son' at the Con. Guess I'll leave well enough alone. (grins) Regards. Michaelson
