Got my Penman Non-Indy Fedora

Post by G-MANN »

Yesterday morning I received my non-Indy fedora made by J. Penman.

I have so many Indy Fedoras that I decided to go for something different.

This one has a narrower brim and much lighter color.

Craftsmanship is very well done. Great pouncing job, sweat sown in very nicely and hard to see the stitches holding the ribbon in place.

I have given it a very loose front creasing and have not done much with the brim other than give it a front snap down.

In a nutshell, I am very pleased with the hat. :D

These pics are a bit light due to the bright morning sun.

NICE! I like the color of it. The shorter brim looks sharp, too.

Nice looking hat G-mann. That one came out really nice.
I'm looking forward to my Penman.
Thanks for sharing.

I completely agree. When I read what you said about shorter brim, my first thought was "oh god, I hate those stingy brims." This is very nice, though. Not too narrow, but still a little narrower than an Indy. All in all, a very nice look. So far, the Penman Hat Co. is doing just as well as I imagined it would. :junior: -M

BTW, bendingoak, are you able to do bound-edge brims and pencil rolls? I'm thinking of someday getting a Homburg... :junior: -M

Not as of yet. I'm trying to get my hat company up and running. When I have a full run of blocks, flanges and have filled most of the orders in front of me first. then I can start thinking of doing different hats. I would like to do others but right now I'm working on getting a foot hold on these.

I really like this fedora. I might want something different in a bit. Something black and not so Indy. I'd rather throw some dough at you, Oak, than buy something like a Stetson beaver. I love the shorter brim. It is not too short and looks just right. How about some pics of it on you?

That was exactly my thought. I know I'll be coming back to Oak for more hats in the near future.

I've gotta throw my hat into the ring (so to speak) and chime in as well... that's a beautifully crafted piece of work, Mr. Penman...
Verrry "Bogey" if you don't mind me saying. And please know that I mean that as a compliment (how could someone say that and NOT?)...
I was watching "The Big Sleep" just last night and while Mr. Bogart's hat IS a slightly different bash, this hat of your's DOES still have that same look and style to it.
Although, I must say... given a choice, yours is definitely (and EASILY) the nicer, cooler and TOUGHER looking lid.
All the Best,
Mitch

Looks good! Nice classic 30's style to it for sure. Looks like something that Bing might have worn.

Cheers!
