Differences in movie jackets?

Post by alphared6 »

I keep reading of the ROTLA jacket, the TOD jacket, The LC jacket and now the KOTCS jacket ... perhaps I just don't have the eye for detail but I can't see any appreciable difference. Can someone point them out to me?

Thanx!

there is alot.. do a search and you'll see. the raiders for example doesn't have the snaps....TOD is a little longer and you'll just have to do a search and you'll see so much. good luck and enjoy learing all about the jacket.

There are a lot of little BIG differences, in the collar, the pockets, the snaps, the colour, the fit, the lenght, and even the hide! :D

Snaps on the storm flap. CS and LC jackets have them the other 2 films don't.

Ahhh ... now I understand. My original A-2's don't have snaps on the storm flap and they don't "flap around" on me. However the bottom of an A-2 has a wool "elastic" band. Perhaps the snaps were added after ROTLA because the flap didn't stay put, eh?

Possibly. I think changes like that weren't for any particular reason - I've never had any problems with my wested Raiders' storm flap. More than likely the new costume designer for Last Crusade just felt like adding them because he thought they were appropriate. Some were for specific reasons, such as the larger pockets in LC which were meant to accommodate the Grail Diary, but I think a lot of the differences were based on the whims of various costume designers. :junior: -M

Don't feel bad Mike. Although I can tell different jackets were used for the different films, I don't see the "little" differences that are apparent to most of the members here (collar and pocket sizes, for example).

the Raiders jacket stands alone :)

After Raiders,*things fell apart* (COUGH)....ok start over.
After Raiders, they used thicker hides, so you dont get nearly as much "ripple" effect, and the body conforming drape gets kind of lost.
I like how in the Raiders jacket, the side buckles are further up, at times seemingly almost halfway up the back panel, and the yoke (the very top panel across the shoulders, if I'm not mistaken) is thinner across the back on the Raiders jacket, making those side vents ride nice and high.
Also, they went to bigger collars, and longer collar lengths after Raiders, resulting in more front panel coverage.
They went full tilt with the CS jacket. Thick hide, huge collar, low side buckles, large yoke. I do however, like the color of it. The finish on the Novapelle hide goes a long way to let that color radiate! I might have preferred a return to that thinner lambskin though...
btw these are differences I notice in the films. It can get a little sketchy when you compare dealer's differences because although great strides have been made for Raiders Style screen accuracy (Westeds Special Offer Raiders, and the Todd's Raiders are holding down the fort nicely, tyvm) some minutia inevitably gets lost in the translation. Thats why we of the slightly obsessive (ok im speaking for myself ) have found such an excellent home here at COW 8)
In general, the Raiders jacket seemed to be the one that got the most treatment for how it would appear on screen. The rest have more of a functional, off the rack appeal imo....although I can see how the side-straps being placed higher up could offer easier access to the whip and gun...ok now im starting to obsess

Yeah. As I wrote before - that comes from the days when Peter used to say that he produced the the ToD movie jacket wich was just like the Raiders only 1 inch longer.
