Oh man, that's a tough choice and I haven't voted yet. If it were like the washed goat I've seen in the Wested photos, my vote would be for that. The cowhide, not the vintage, would also be a good, sturdy choice.

I'm an undecided voter right now - the lowest of the low!

I have the CE in cow as well, love it but for ToD, I'd love a darker brown goat . I like the washed goat look as well, but I think the same look could be acheived by tumbling the regular goat in the dryer for a bit

I think that Wested washed goat is much more distressed than what throwing the USW goat in the drier would do. I know because I've thrown mine in the dryer for hours and while it does make it softer, it does not seem to do anything to the look of the leather save bringing out a touch more texture.

Whatever process the 'wash' is, it's not a look easy to obtain with a regular hide.

I get the feeling that nice dark lamb would be the best choice for a TOD jacket.

The Temple of Doom jacket was the drapiest of them all, IMHO.

I voted lamb. If it's going to be our best shot at an accurate pattern, let's use an accurate material.

I'd vote for the lightest weight lamb possible... No way could you survive a trek in the humid jungles of India otherwise... ;)

Wings uses a New Zealand lamb skin...I've never seen it in person but people say its a great hide, heavier than most others.

That might be something to keep in mind with this. Since Wings is manufacturing the jacket, more than likely they will want to use a leather they already have available. I'd go to their site and see what leather they offer that would best suit the jacket in your opinion.

Holt, I don't remember ever hearing a definate word that Terry's jacket in that scene was cowhide - are we sure, whats the story?

But regardless, that jacket may or may not have shown up on screen, but the general look of the jacket throughout the film is of a thin material.

You guys keep in mind that the prototype jacket that ya'll are working with IS antiqued (New Zealand) Lambskin. I personally feel that it's a bit stiff not lightweight enough for the TofD, but it's JMHO. Also take it from me, when that leather is new, it's very different from what you have there. For one thing it's far from being a SA color, it's very russett brown and plastic looking until wet and dried. I'm pretty sure it's vegetable tanned though, that's a very good thing. It's funny my take is that this leather would make a great Raiders but not ideal for TofD.

Okay, there must be something I don't know. How did they get a TOD jacket in Raiders? Or was the TOD jacket based on a raiders stunt jacket?

Sorry Holt, the jacket write up tells us that the stunt jacket used by Leonard under the truck was a Wilson jacket - not a ToD jacket at all.

Is _ wrong on this?

I think he's right. The ToD jacket was based on the Western Costume cloth mock-up. This is what I can understand from the IndyGear article.

no dont think _ is wrong on that.he KNOWS his stuff.trust me... but i do believe that that jacket was a model for ToD..

so thats why I say a ToD was used in raiders..

but still I have my own speculations that this might be the hero jacket used in TOD...

I went with goat as well. I think it is a good compromise of drape and durability.

I voted for lamb. Goat is a clsoe second if not an equal choice. Lamb is beautiful though and will weather well. The current USW goat is very tough, however.

I'm going to say goat - although I would accept a strong NZ lamb... I'm just ust not a person who enjoys lamb jackets. I don't want a costume jacket and would never dress up as IJ...

As for links... no. I think Platon was all over this issue also a year or two ago. It's been frequently pointed out that the Wilson jacket appears close to a ToD. Or more accurately, people see the photos/clips of Leonard about to do the truck stunt and go - "Hey that looks like a ToD jacket because it has small pockets." Many of us thought that stunt jackets made by Wested ended up as ToD jackets in the next film. But there was no real difference between hero and stunt jackets made by Wested - only that one Leonard wears under the truck - which turns out to have been a Wilson.

I do can believe _ about what he says..but still I am my own person who can have my own speculations..

I have allways thought that this jacket worn by Terry in raiders is the Hero jacket worn by Ford In Temple. it was made custom for Terry back then...thats why you see it fitted for Terry..but on Ford it looks bigger cause Terry might have been bigger then Ford....I believe thats one of the 2 jackets you see in TOD.....one big jacket and the trim slim fitting one...

I believe they took Terry's jacket and used that as a reference for making a more fitting jakcet for Ford....the end scenes trim fitting jacket with the wrinkly sleeves.

just my speculations

Speculate away....

Although I understand that Terry's jacket was in Ford's size. They only produced one size and did not customise for stunt guys. Terry being chosen because he was Ford's size.

In the picture of the stunt dude under the truck, I believe he was wearing body armor (I read that somewhere at some point, and it only makes since) under his jacket. That jacket does indeed look very similar like what the hero jacket looks like in TofD (vents, pockets, what not) so that could account for the loosness and length of it on Ford - if that is the jacket that's on screen (just more speculation :- )

I voted Lambskin.

Provided that the ToD jacket was lambskin (:-k ) I would like to see the USW jacket as close to the original as possible.

Other options down the line would be nice, but for now I`m guessing most folks would want the original animal.

I'm for lambskin myself.

but it depends how thick the goat skin US Wings uses on their jackets.

if it is a thinner goatskin then what wested uses then I am in for goat.
