Side by Side comparison?

Post by senkusha »

I'm really sorry if this has been asked before, but I really can't find it.

Is there a place where I can see all the Indy hats side by side to compare and see which version I like best? I read somewhere that each movie has a slightly different style of hat.

Also, a bit off topic. When I do get my hat, I'll probably be transitioning to different attire. What does one wear with a good hat like this? What looks best? What feels / functions best?

Thanks!

Really, it's whatever you decide you like the best. I know a guy who's standard was once a Federation and hawaiian shirt. It'll go with anything indy ever wore, and goes good with earth tones. I like to wear mine with a brown jacket, though I don't wear it much anymore. But I have a hat on order that I plan to wear with just about anything....

The other thing that makes this difficult is the fact that several hats were used in each film, and each hat (even in the same film) was slightly different.

To give you an idea of which style you like best, here are some excellent collages compiled by members of this site, which should be helpful:

I hope the members who created these won't mind me posting links to them, but I will gladly remove the links if there are any objections.

Mainly, it's a matter of taste. But I have a few personal rules that I think reflect a sense of style that should go along with wearing a felt fedora.
1. T-shirt only is not good, unless you're at a BBQ or engaging in physical labor. Otherwise, at least throw an open hawaiian shirt or light jacket over it.
2. Generally, try to have some form of collared shirt or jacket on, even if it's just a polo.
3. Some hats are just too dressy looking to wear with safari clothes or wrinkled army jackets. A brown-on-brown fedora is NOT one of those. (If you ever branch out, blazers and leather jackets almost always work).
4. Don't dress like Indy unless you are prepared to be called Indy.
5. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, honestly, that you like what you see.

I wear my SOC hat with everything, but mainly a T-shirt and jeans. That's about all I wear on a day off. I dress, grab my hat as I'm walking out the door, and go. To the Walmart, mall, grocery store, into the woods with my dogs, for a drive just anywhere, whatever...I have decided to get a gray hat too though to wear with Dockers and a nice button down shirt.

But that's my style and it should be individual and what appeals to the wearer, I don't dress to please the people that see me.

I don't have a wested shirt, but if I did, I would. Wear it that is  Although they can be used as dressy, I don't think of indy style shirts as just dress shirts, and will often wear my lid with one. My general rule of thumb that if it's a dress shirt, then it has one pocket on the left, or none at all, lol.

Thanks!

senkusha, I notice you are asking a lot of questions as a newbie (welcome aboard, by the way!) but you may find many of your answers by reading the main site or using the search function at the top of the page. Good luck!
