Ohhhh come on........ there's no need to talk about pancakes like that!Kentucky Blues wrote:Well, I can't say I have one, but I have a feeling they'll stack up to a stack of pancakes better than an optimo or adventurebilt. I'm pretty sure they're the same dimensions as the other dorfmans, and I doubt as much work goes into them as an optimo or adventurbilt. Just my theory though.

I assume you are referring to this hat.

I am very curious about it as well. I will admit that there at least three hats I would pursue before this hat. Todd's or Magnoli's HJ and/or a Chtistie's adventurer, are more accurate and cheaper options but this DP is still interesting.

There are about 100 hats I'd buy before that. I bought a Dorfman wool Indy hat just because I figured it couldn't possibly be as bad as people say it is, but unfortunately I was sadly mistaken.scot2525 wrote:I assume you are referring to this hat.

ehtyva I wasn't giving this hat an "endorsement" as the 4th best hat on the market, far from it. I currently own a DP wool felt hat from the early '90's and actually have another on the way, freebie from US wings jacket order.ehtyva wrote:There are about 100 hats I'd buy before that. My Indy fedora is a Fed IV standard and I am contemplating ordering one of the previous mentioned hats as an upgrade.
Here is a photo of the DP wool that I currently own.
My son loves this hat.

Thanks for the comment, my son will be 5 in October. He decided to be Indy in this photo but also runs around pretending to be Spider Man, Bat Man, Obi Wan, Anakin/ Luke Skywalker on a regular basis.

I have ready reviews from people on various sites where this Dorfman is sold, and they all rave thus far. Here's some from the Village Hat Shop's website.

Now, all those people bought that Dorfman. Do we blow these people's opinions off as "whatever," because they are praising the Dorfman and don't "know any better"? They seem to like it.
Most EXCELLENT! (5/5) Mar 4, 2008 Dan Swartling Cookeville TN US
The pictures do not do this hat justice. It is exquisite, very well made, very smooth felt, finely detailed and perfectly blocked.
I had to wait several weeks, but customer service was very considerate and the wait was well worth it.
Super Service!! (5/5) Feb 7, 2008 Grace H King Greensboro NC US
I ordered two hats for my son for Christmas and they were shipped immediately. One of the hats did not fit and my son decided upon another style. We returned the hat and the replacement was sent quickly without additional shipping charges. I would definitely order from this site again!
Absolutely AWESOME! (5/5) Jan 16, 2008 Logan Anderson Lynchburg Vi US
This hat is freakin' awesome! When UPS delivered a few minutes ago, I ripped into the box, pulled it out and was just amazed. Quality is top-rate in every respect. I've got two top-of-the-line Borsalino fedoras, and the Indy ranks right there with them for quality of design, make and materials. Plus, it's just plain fun!!!
There isn't enough O's in Smooth for this baby! (5/5) Jan 9, 2008 Eddie Cellini Trumbull Co US
I fought with myself for weeks on whether to spend that much for a hat. I had buyers remorse right up until the hat showed up at my front door. When I opened the box and put this baby on my head and felt how good a REAL hat SHOULD feel, all my trepidation melted away. I'll never part with this beauty. Now where did I put my leather brown bomber jacket.......
Really great hat!! (5/5) Dec 28, 2007 Christopher K Hull Fort Worth Te US
As a serious hat collector, this hat is very fine! The fit was perfect and the feel is devine! 100% beaver is really smooth!! I look forward to wearing the hat for the upcoming movie but also as a very classy hat for other affairs!! I have seen alot of fedoras and this is only second to the first my wife gave me. Any one called "The Hat Doc" who live is Texas would know this is fine quality!!

That used to happen to me, too, even as far back as the early licensed wool felt Stetsons. I guess you can't blame the clerks too much, because much of the advertising implies that the hats are the same as used in the films.nicktheguy wrote:I saw one in the local hat store back in May - and really wasn't very impressed with it -- especially when the clerks raved about it being the same hat Indy wore......

Yeesh. Ignorami like that really tick me off. If they did even 15 minutes of research they would know that that is 100% wrong. :junior: -Mnicktheguy wrote:I saw one in the local hat store back in May - and really wasn't very impressed with it -- especially when the clerks raved about it being the same hat Indy wore......

But to be fair, many of them wouldn't know the difference, or even feel the need to do "15 minutes of research." They are selling a hat and likely using the only information they know, which is the information that came from the hat company in order to sell the hats. That's why it's up to the customer to do the homework. Caveat emptor, baby.

Can someone tell me if hand blocked and hand made are synonymous in hat terminology?
Just curious - got my money on a Penman
I have found that some of the terminology is used wrong. Just as a example.....I found that the word petersham and grosgrain are used as if it's the same thing. It is not.

As far as the "15 minutes of research" is concerned, these people that wrote the positive reviews clearly don't have the attention to detial that we do when it comes to Indy's costume. Some of the time, even I don't know what subtle differences you guys are talking about (and I notice everything!). Anyway, if these people think it looks like Indy's hat, than it looks like Indy's hat, so there's no reason to do any research. If it doesn't look like Indy's hat, I trust that they'll do their "15 minutes of research."

But the salespeople are trying to sell it; that's their job. They'll tell people its an Indy hat even if they know its not. They want to sell it, not drive people away.Kentucky Blues wrote:I think he's referring to the sales people when he says the 15 minutes of research. As in, if they did 15 minutes of research, they would know that it's not the same hat as used in the movie, and wouldn't tell unsuspecting people that it is.
