Magnoli Raiders Jacket!

Post by starks_6 »

After I had a very unfortunate 9 week wait from wested and ended up canceling my order, I thought Id give Indy Magnoli's jacket a go. I ordered it distressed and it has come lightly distressed, no new shine :) This Jacket is great, it drapes extremely well, it is very soft leather, and most importantly is made to the Raiders specs! it even has 2 inside pockets! And really cost wise this worked out the same for me as buying a Wested so Im extremely happy. Thankyou Indy Magnoli!

For contrast Ive taken a few shots with both a TODDs and an AB shirt...
The pants are also Magnoli!

Looks great! From the photos, it looks similar to my Wested Novapelle. Is that goat or lambskin?

The craftsmanship on Indy Magnoli's items have been fantastic.

I have two items from him, and they have all the appearance and performance of being items I'd be able to hand down to my grandkids (if I HAD any grandkids! )

I think you chose....WISELY!! :D

The outside pockets do look very nice, much like a G&B. Nice scallops. Nice looking leather as well.

Is that lamb or goat?

I looked at these just last night...

Any clarification as to which version is which?

I.E.
Version A is raiders; Version B is Temple etc...

I know he can't put those words on the site, and apologies if it has been asked 1,600 times already... :?

Is that version A ? Looks like collar stand extends to storm flap, are the outside pockets the standard or the smaller ?

No question: this is a s w e e t jacket.

Made to measure, every detail exactly as you want, enough pockets you could leave the Mk VII home.... It really doesn't get much better than this!

Horse Hide might be better... But not the same drape... But would wear like steel... Looks killer as it wears in (or is accelerated distressed)... More in the 'spirit' of a true hard-use adventure jacket, particularly considering the era...

Might have to make a phone call... No, can't afford it right now...

Brain hurts... Need coffee...

does Magnoli do a zipper to the very end of the jacket if you request it? I would figure his Raiders jacket would have this feature. Starks_6, did you request leather facings on the zipper? Or are those standard in Magnoli's Raiders pattern?

And, what leather is that jacket?

Beautiful jacket, starks. Simply beautiful.

Why does nobody mention that the back panel length does not extend all the way to the sleeve seam? People jump all over this detail on other jackets.

Starks.. Another question... what did you use as a reference for your measurements? I think that fits absolutely perfectly for a raiders jacket!

I didn't expect to wake up this morning such a popular guy  lol

The jacket is The lambskin (i should have stated this all at the start).
It is the version A and everything on it is per Magnoli's pattern. I made no requests to deviate from his pattern.
I know some don't consider the leather facing on the zipper to be screen accurate but I'm not to concerned with something I don't really see. This would appear to be standard on the jacket.

When I tried ordering my wested I had a custom order using Erri's specs and that came to 185 pounds. With the exchange rate at the time wih shipping it worked out at around $500 Australian so really the Magnoli cost me no more and I didnt have to ask for a whole list of specifications!

Any more questions Im more than happy to answer

:D

NZ lamb, from what i hear, is awesome stuff. i do know that mags uses overseas tailors though so just because he's in NZ doesn't necessaraly mean that the leather is kiwi lamb

I understand the jackets are made in India/China - are they New Zealand lamb or lamb sourced in Asia? Yes, Magnoli lives in New Zealand.

That jacket is awesome, starks! I just ordered the same style, but I went with washed lambskin instead of distressed.

Just out of curiosity (and for the education of those thinking about a Magnoli jacket), how long did you have to wait from payment to delivery?

It ain't so! ;) My leather jackets were originally made in China (by the same company that made them for Columbia Sportswear) and although the craftsmanship was great, I didn't like their leather supplier.

I now, however, have all of my leather garments produced in India and the quality is fantastic. These are not el-cheapo sweat-shop jackets, but professionally hand-made garments. I think the quality of the jackets speak for themselves... 8)

Kind regards,
Magnoli

So Indy Magnoli. I have a question for you.

I know your jackets are completely custom, so I suppose requests such as: no leather facings on the zipper, and zipper extending to end of jacket, would not be unreasonable.

BUT... What about the seams of the jacket around the pockets and collar? They seem very wide, and this would not be accurate to Raiders. Would your jacket maker be able to sew slimmer seams around the scallop of the pocket while keeping the top of the pocket a wider "piped" seam? Would they be able to narrow some of the other seams in appropriate places?

Thanks!

Sorry champ, didnt forget ya, I was just in a rush this morning.
For the body length etc I wore my pants where I wear them and had the missus measure to where I thought the jacket should sit. As for the sleeves I actually measured the sleeves on my TODDs shirt and added a bit on (for the top and middle of the sleeves). The chest I did the old measure while holding in as much breath as you can and added an inch for clothing underneath :)
As for fitting well, I guess that's the glory of having a fully tailor made jacket over an off the rack pattern with differing chest and arm lengths.

Raider S, Erri's specs can be seen here:
viewtopic.php?t=26406

Chewbacca Jones, I waited 4 weeks then decided I wanted the jacket distressed so it took about 6 weeks all up. Well worth the wait in my opinion :)

The rest of the gear for those who asked is:

The hat is a FED 3
first 2 shots have a TODDs shirt and the 3rd with the Idol is an AB
The pants are magnoli
The bag strap is Magnoli with an AB buckle
The gun belt and whip holder and Webb belt are TODDs
The holster is an AB
The bag is an original WPG repro that I re-dyed to be more green toned
And the whip is a Ben Scott

Once again, if anyone wants a jacket...strongly consider a Magnoli!

Length, or width? Because the yoke seam is above the sleeve seam, and that is correct. I'm not sure about the width. I think it depends on what side of the screen-used jacket you look on, whether the back panel width extends to the shoulder seam, because I think the original was asymmetrical.

Magnoli, I think you've missed the point of the question.. we ask if it's New Zealand lambskin (specifically) because generally speaking it's known to be a much thicker lambskin than say, English or Italian lambskin... and usually has a better graining quality. People are always looking for a thicker lambskin jacket because that's what was actually used in the Raiders jacket. So, is this New Zealand lambskin or perhaps you're not sure?

Doug,
Based on my research, Magnoli (who will likely confirm soon) used a thicker lambskin than Wested. Where it comes from, I haven't a clue.

As for Magnoli's comments on the quality of his leather garments from India, I can vouch for that. I have one of his non-Indy's, and it's the finest made leather jacket I have ever owned (and I've owned many). Once I got that first jacket, all my fantasies of saving up for a other vendors' jackets were forgotten.... or at least secondary.

I've been trying to decide between a G&B and Magnoli's offering. Thanks to your photos, starks_6, I think you've help me make up my mind.

Looks like I'll be getting a custom Magnoli this fall.
