Todd standard leather the same as the movie jacket?
Just one for curiosity. The Todd standard jackets look (and drape) like the movie versions. Does anyone know if the film jackets were the same quality of leather as a Todd's standard - or was it a stronger/thicker type of leather?

I had a Leather Concessionaires Raiders jacket many years ago that, as I recall, was a little thicker than the Todd's Standard, but not by too much. I traded this jacket to Lee Keppler a long time ago for a new Wested that was made of a thicker, heavier lambskin.CM wrote:Just one for curiosity. Peter has said a few times that the Raiders jacket was made from a thicker lambskin than he can no longer source. I believe it was also vegetable tanned if I'm not mistaken. To me when I look closely as the movie or screen caps I can tell it's a bit thicker and might I add grainier than what's being used now. It certainly looks thicker than most shots of the TofD jacket leather IMHO.

IMO, wested's washed goat is the closest thing that you'll get to the raiders leather considering colour, thickness, drape and movement. this of course is from what i can deduce from how the jacket behaves in the movie. i haven't found any other offerings that come that close. todd's washed lambe was extremely close before, but fell short; being too soft and too light (but everything else on that jacket was a winner).
IG, do you have a washed goat ( I can't remember) ? I was thinking the same thing but have never actually handled one and not that many have been posted yet because they are so new. So, I'd like to believe they are really close to the Raider look, feel, impression, etc. but I need to see more shots really. One thing though, I tend to think these "washed" hides are just a bit too dull in finish, when looking at screen caps I see places that are dull and others that obviously have a clear. Fiebings makes a product that would be good for doing that - I will try it if I can land a Washed Goat.

I may be mistaken, but I thought it was said somewhere that the stunt jackets were made of thinner material. Take a freeze frame of Indy or the stunt man while he has his back to the camera and is hanging off the front of the Nazi truck. That particular jacket drapes almost like a flannel shirt.

The stunt jackets were the same as the hero in size, leather and design. Except for a moment in the film under the truck where the Wilson jacket (no pleats and smaller pockets) was used. It's all in the write up already.bigrex wrote:I may be mistaken, but I thought it was said somewhere that the stunt jackets were made of thinner material. I think I remember Peter saying that the leather was tanned using Whale fat... needless to say this illegal now, at least in the UK.Doug C wrote:Peter has said a few times that the Raiders jacket was made from a thicker lambskin than he can no longer source.
