Todd's Standard vs. Wested Washed Goat Pics....

Just got my Todd's Standard today. No distressing as yet. Size is XL.
Here's what I think after comparing the 2 jackets:
1. The washed goat fits me better even though they're both OTR.
2. They're both very light, but the Todd's is super thin!
3. Construction is much better on the Wested......there are places on the Todd's where the stitching is mediocre....for example, the left back action pleat is smaller than the right one and thus, is almost always open . Also the openings on the front hand-warmer pockets on the Todd's are so small, it's almost impossible to put your hands in.
4. I prefer the back length on the washed goat better....it seems like the Todd's is a good 2 in shorter than what I would like.
5. The satin lining is so paper-thin in the Todd's, there are spots where it might rip just by rubbing it a few times.
Overall, for the price, the Todd's is an OK jacket. It may be very SA, but for me, the fit and quality falls too short. I will most likely return this jacket just due to the defective left back action pleat alone.

I sent it back to exchange for another one in the same size (XL). The fit is fine....it's just that the one I got has defects....the biggest being one of the pleats in the back that was sewed together wrong....thus it was open all the time. There was also a zipper imprint in the leather of one of front flaps that was impossible to remove. For $150, I guess you can expect some minor defects here and there.....maybe Todd's Standard jackets are made in China?

Hello there PSB...
I too received a Todds off the rack, XL and the fit is OK (better than expected actually) but I have to send it back.
I also found one of the pocket snaps WAY of the center of the pocket, which was weird... As the leather disreesses you will clearly see the snap is off about an inch... So even if it was perect otherwise, it would have to go back fro that...
Anyway, I wanted you opinion of the back length versus the front length on the Todds.
When I layed it flat to fold it for return shipment, I noticed the back is actually shorter than the front. I thought it was me and my height, but the back panel comes to the inside hem edge of the front (which works out to about ~1/2 inch shorter than the front).
Is this typical of Todd's, or just my jacket?
I want to make it right, but if I give an increase in length to the body of 2 inches (about what I neeed as far as I can tell from raider's stills) should I ask for 2 1/2 for the back panel? If the front and back matched up, 2 inches all around would do it I think...
Do you suggest ading about 1/2 inch to the pocket height, to keep scale with the 2 inch increase in body length? The pockets are quite small in Raiders, and they look good as-is, but I'm wondering if they may look too small as the height of the jacket increases...
Do you have a Wested 80's cut by any chance? I am wondering how that would compare to the todd's, as far as fit is concerned. Are the sleeves any longer? (they appear about 1/4-1/2 inch longer in your photos, but that jacket is a ToD style, which I beleive is a bit bigger fitting than the Raider's jacket)
Just trying to get the 'look' right, while at the same time maximizing the usefulness in every day wear...
Sorry for the long post- eager to hear your reply.

Before I had sent it back, I think the back length on mine was indeed slightly shorter than the front. However, all-in-all, the dimensions were pretty close to other Wested Raiders jackets I've owned in the past (but I never owned an 80's cut). As I'd stated before, the main reason why I sent it back was not the fit but the manufacturing defects on the jacket I got. I'm really curious if Todd's Standard is made in the US or over-seas. (The inside label says something about Pine Mountain, California, but I don't know if that's just the location of the distributor or where it's actually made)
I don't think you can request alterations on Todd's standard jackets.....for that, you need to order the more expensive Custom jacket.....which might be worth it if you really want everything thing to be perfect. But for a $150 jacket, I guess what you see is what you get.

Yes, I knew this going in... $150 is VERY cheap when you consider how worthless the US Dollar is these days. The custom Todds option rings the price above that of a custom Wested (more or less) so that's why I started in on the Wested questions again.PSBIndy wrote:I don't think you can request alterations on Todd's standard jackets.....for that, you need to order the more expensive Custom jacket.....which might be worth it if you really want everything thing to be perfect. I have contacted another member selling a Todds custom right now. He is going to do some measurements for me, and I will see how that goes.
The easiest thing (and cheapest) is to return this for a XXL; however those are back-ordered at the moment. I will ave to call Todd later and check status- I have to let him know I'm returning this one anyway...
Oh, I have a sneaking suspicion these standard jackets are not made in this country. That pocket snap is WAY off and did not get caught. It happens, but it was clearly not anywhere near correct...

Hey, all! Let me respond to a few things.
The jackets are imported, and some do have flaws. Overall, they're 98% perfect, which isn't too bad. You're welcomed to an exchange or refund. I've got a long list of people who will take it off my hands.
The back length is shorter than the front. Was on the original jacket, is on the Expedition, and probably is on others, although I haven't seen them all to check this. Everyone is built different, but on the majority of people, this cut will look "even" when viewed from the side.

If I get an exchange (for the same size), do you have the jackets in stock to do it? (mine is a XL)Puppetboy wrote:Hey, all! Let me respond to a few things.

My LC/CS washed goat is a size 44 OTR. The back length is about 27 in. I prefer the slightly longer length on the LC/CS than the Raiders. The washed goat is definately one of the best leathers Wested has ever produced!Indiana Holt wrote:what size is that washed goat you there?
and whats the back length...
it has the bigger armholes right?
looks great...I am deciding if I should get a raiders or LC in that hide...
