red is dead

Post by Indiana G »

my first pair of 405's were the stock brick coloured boots that i bought from the san fran store. one of the best boots, if not THE best pair of footwear, that i've ever purchased.

now it always bugged me that i've got this brown and tan and khaki ensemble going on with these bricky, reddy, red, tomato, fire engine boots to compliment it.....kinda lost that indy look for me.

so i went and bought the AF64's from alden of carmel. great comfy boots as well but it had the police/EMT lug sole. after thinking long and hard and probably bugging schmidty half to death......i decided that i'd rather fall on my indy-wannabe butt in winter than look like indiana jones and the raiders of the lost lumberjacks  got bryan to give them a makeover....

thanks bryan for the great service, great communication, and putting up with my OC indy disorder :D

Wait, so that pair of boots is NOT the 405 boot, but has the 405 soles? Or are those custom 405s?

Whatever they are, they have a great color! I would call it.... :-k Dusty Tootsie Roll! Really though, they look great! Let's see you in your gear with those babies!

they are the AF64 ruggeds (405 last) from alden of carmel. they come stock with a vibram rugged/lug sole (bleyachhh!! ).

i was waiting to get my kotcs bullwhip from jacka before i post pics of completed gear (in 3 months or so).....maybe i can snag some pics sooner

i bought these for the 'raidersish' colour.....not really for CS. CS is soooo worn in that it reminded me of suede/tan. i've ordered a pair of the tan suede 405's from tom at leathersoulhawaii.com. i don't know if those will be my official CS boots or these ones once i break these in and scuff em up. we'll see i guess.

And what will you do when you hear that Indy had a pair with lug soles in his closet just for winter wear?

if i see them in the next movie then i can reminisce (sp?) that i had some

i believe AF64's were $450 when i bought them. schmidty charged me $55 for the resole......delivery to and from carmel and to and from schmidty was extra. i've had the boots prior to AB's offering so i thought this would be more economic for me to go this route.

i'd love to have those AB aldens.....but that price tag is beyond my comfort zone. at least this way, i can 'tony nowak' these (ie beat the #### out of them) and still be okay with it

Resole, you say! That's just what I need (my Alden soles are coming apart, I don't like the original soles that much, actually).

One of the great things about a quality shoe: It can be repaired! :D
