G&B came today!

Well, I'm now the proud owner of a G&B goat... my 1st Indy jacket. I can say that it's very nice and fits a little large, but hopefully with a little distress over time, it will "draw up" a little.

A huge heartfelt thanks to my loving wife, who gave me this gift for our 20th anniversary (a day early).

Robo, I see you have a 48R and say it fits a bit big. Is your chest size measured 48 or did you size up a bit?

You say it fits a bit big - do you mean in the shoulders?

I ask because I'm trying to figure if these tend to go a bit on the roomy or snug side of the fit spectrum.

Jacket looks nice!

I JUST received a G&B goat today too, and in my opinion, the size is true to form. I had originally ordered a short, which was taken off the rack, and sent right away, but the sleeves fit perfectly, the torso, however, was too short. This time around, I ordered a 'made to order' and it fits perfectly. I normally like some roominess around the chest, and this one accomodates. As with a Wested custom, including the measurements is highly recommended, and will help prevent needless returns. I did not want to send the first one back, but it was very well worth the wait. The leather quality and craftsmanship is exceptional!

...some features that were changed/added ...I requested that the zipper be changed to zip from the right, like a regular men's jacket, instead of from the left, and a hidden "press stud" at the bottom of the storm flap was added.

I wouldn't say unpopular. It just seems that the other hides are more sought after right now. Maybe it's just a trendy gear thing at the moment?

And they look a lot better after 3 months of regular wear. The shine and stiffness goes fairly quickly. Cos they do look a little stiff and lifeless out of the box, don't they?

Thanks Raider S... yes, my chest size is slightly under 48 and the sleeves seem a bit long to me at the moment. I haven't quite got the courage up to do the "Mechanic wash" on it.

Ha... yeah she has a sister, but she's "spoken for" and lives in OK. I don't think her sister is as nice.

Yeah Texan, I would rather have the zip on the other side... it's going to take a little getting used to.

Put in in the dryer for a tumble,zipped up no heat,and you will be amazed how quickly it softens up. Nice jacket,you got one of the best,it will last another 20 years for sure!

the goatskin can last longer the 20 years..50 at least...remember its an millitary used hide...

I'd say 20 on the lamb with regular wear...

With respect, those years of wear are impossible to predict. We've also seen some lamb jackets here worn through at around 10 years. I've seen ruined goat leather that has been worn for just 8 years. It all depends on variables we don't know or can't tell until it's... too late. One of my Indy goats is about 6 years, no distressing, the collar leather is already is spongy and fragile. It's all about how the leather has been cut and treated, how you wear it, what chemicals go near it, how much water it absorbed, how it is stored, whether it dries out, how much sun it is exposed to, etc, etc.

Goat may go 50 years if you wear it a couple of months a year and keep it ventilated and away from light. Just beacuse goat is used by the military does not mean that your particular goat hide is of military quality. Well, maybe the USW and G&B are...

Mine landed today also, and the dark seal goat 44T is a perfect fit. Pictures shortly...

Update...lazy good-for-nothing #$#$%# wife won't take pictures, will have to do them with her tomorrow

Sorry all, but if so many in my fan club have been willing to wait 8 weeks for me to get the right jacket, you can wait another day to see me model it on the runway...

I will say this, that if you are of longer arms, the "Tall" is a must...

I have to admit, I have really punished the swatch sent, and it is a tough hide. I am just having a hard time getting my head around that it really is a tough jacket when I try it on right after my Aero 5 oz. FQHH.

The Aero weighs about 8 lbs, and is seemingly made of pure neutronium, while the Indy is so much lighter - but this is what I got it for.

I love the G&B and the dark brown seal works for me, as the jacket makes a superb companion to the Aero. Strongly recommend both...if only the weather would cool off...

A sharp eye can see I am in a t-shirt and shorts, it is still quite warm even now at 11:00 pm.

The last 3 are color accurate, it is a dark shade of brown - not black as the first 2 shots appear. I had neglected to turn on a lamp behind me. It really is a wonderful jacket, and while it will take many years of tough wear to look like Indy's, the adventure is just beginning...

Fit appears okay, but hard to tell till the thing losens up. Also it woudl help if you were wearing good pants to give the jacket a context. It looks just like mine did when new.

That's the one thing I don't like with G&B's.....the jackets come with the leather so #### shiny it looks almost "fake." I wish they would provide the option to order the jacket with a distressed or weathered-look to it. Impeccable jacket otherwise.

Blueskyz said he got a cow nappa, but I think after a few weeks of wear the shine will come off. Hopefully not the smell, though - they should bottle that.

Though having seen the Wested novapelle pics, that hide does look amazing...and I do agree that G&B should probably consider offering a distressed-looking hide like that.

The shine comes off gradually... Maybe a quick rub with a rag soaked in alcohol...

The shine is wearing off my jacket nicely as well as some of the pigment.......thought about the alcohol rubdown but haven't gone there yet. I have to say that G&B should offer this leather as an option for their Expeditions,sure don't know why they won't..........it is soft & strong[ok maybe not as strong as goat but its not like armor anymore,my goat CWU still is goaty]. This is the jacket I've tried to get G&B to make me for years,out of their vintage nappa cowhide.
