my custom HH LC wested

Post by Holt »

Hi,

after I gave away my LC magnoli wich I loved dearly to my uncle because it turned out to be a little to small for me in the chest(my fault)

but he loves the jacket wich I really understand......so I am glad I pleased him with that jacket:)he's a big IJ fan like my father and myself

I decided to get a wested LC this time cause I was so curious about the HorseHide....the hide is just wow!

I gave Gemma my body specs and a picture of the screen used one(the archives picture of the jacket with the hat and whip) and i told Gemma I want that jacket..they sent me this in return

I think they pretty much nailed the look of the screen used jacket.

higher pocketplacement with bigger and curved flap. no hem stitch. big and round tip collar. small rectangular sideatrap box's. no facings. no shoulder pads. single stitch shoulder seam. black silk linnen. and off course the V tappered backpannel..and reinfoced stitching everywhere..I really mean everywhere!

what do you think of the fit?

That is a beautiful jacket Holt!

It really looks like they nailed it, from my limited knowledge of course.

How does the HH feel and act?

I wonder if I did the same for a Raiders, measurements and a picture, id they would get it as right as they have for you? I am kind of leaning towards Wested by the way (economy woes) and get a Magnoli later.

Long live the Last Crusade of the Viking!

that looks awesome, I may have to start saving for my own horsehide. DO you own any A-2's? if so how would you compare the thickness of the wested horsehide to an A2 just curious,so which is you favorite out of all of your jackets?

the HH is a beautifull hide and it really feels like it can take all the beating Indy gave his jacket in all 4 movies together...twice!

it feels like a really thick and tuff lambskin.to thick for a raiders I think...but very good for a LC style jacket

it breakes in pretty quick and just molds on you.

I dont own any A-2's...but they say that this hide is much softer and thinner then a A2

my favorite jacket is the ToD from Magnoli..love it! and this one on a strong 2nd place

Holt,
Great looking jacket and an excellent fit. Though having a Wested HH myself, I don't know about the leather for a Last Crusade jacket. I love the leather but it has a very different look to it. I think it fits better with a Raiders and or maybe TOD. The Wested HH is pretty dark and has a different grain than the LC to me at least. I always saw the Last Crusade as a lighter jacket. Either way you have a nice unique jacket there, that not everyone will have, and it suits you. Enjoy it... and your uncle is lucky too.

thanks everybody..

at first I was a little worried about the length of the jacket..but after watching the film I noticed that it matches pretty close to what I see on screen..

and it will off course relax even more with wear :D

I know that everybody says it is a light brown, and I tend to agree somewhat.....but the original jacket has a rumor that it was a dark brown color used for the jacket...

I think it all is just a matter of stage lights and personal taste..but look here......outside daylight

In my opinion, it looks perfect. But then again, I'm in the minority that thinks the jackets in RoLA and LC were longer than 2 inches! ;)

And I would get one Holt, but I'm already starting to find it hard justifying the 8...9 Indy jacket sitting in my wardrobe! Come spring, and I can almost imagine sitting there for a good hour or two just Pecarding the whole mess of them! ](*,)

Yes, the HH is a beaut!......It's one TOUGH jacket! It used to be my favorite jacket until I got my Novapelle and then I sold it. I used the money towards a TN. Life is full of sacrifices.

Holt, that is one of the best jackets I have seen. It is Wested's best LC since the film. How did you get them to do it so well and why can't all theri LC jackets look like that?

hehe,..I talked to KT and he said you was going tosay what you just said... :D

I just told Gemma I wanted a full copy of the jacket picture I provided.
Image

I remember I said I want it made to picture detail.

and off course I gave some specs i knew it had to have.like the side straps with small box's and bigger flaps and black silk linnen with no facings.

but they gave me things like I didnt think of in the first place..like the rounded tip collar with the correct stand and size+single stitch shoulder seam....etc..

but I feel that the length is a bit short......or is it just my imagination?

yeah... I know exactly what you mean... but I still think they look a LITTLE high. Not much though. Difficult to tell though... the camera/lens can create all sorts of optical illusions and is possibly one of the reason we have endless debates on screen accuracy. Angle, lighting, distance from the camera etc... they all add to cheat the eye. Just for instance... that fact that Indy's jacket looks like cow hide, when in fact it was fairly thin lamb, is testament to this.

Hey Holt, what are you looking at in those photos?? :D

Anyway, I think the placement of the pockets from the bottom is right, but perhaps not so right from the middle. Judging from the Smithsonian pics. :-k

I think the pockets on your jacket look about right. We'd need to get a ruler and measure the orginal to find out for sure. I think the fact that the leather on yours is still very smooth and one even colour (with no distressing) could make them appear to be a bit higher. I've alwasy been struch by how high the LC pockets are - very much like the infamous archive jacket.

Cheers

right!

and when you look at the infamous archive jacket you can really see how similiar this jacket is to that jacket.IMO

I'd say that maby these pockets are 5mm higher then the real one..

I mean who cares right?

I would rather have this one then the standard LC wested..

anyone agree with that..or is it so ugly that I need to send it back for rework?

I tend to think the sleeves are just a bit too long IMHO. Ford´s sleeves appear to come down to somwhere above the knuckles. But if they work for you, that´s all that matters. Great jacket... I think the HH is awesome!

Holt... the jacket looks great! It's a keeper, for sure! It's been made uniquely for you, right!? That's one of the things about the Wested jackets... so what if it isn't totally screen accurate... no jacket ever will be, in all reality. Plus you'd have to get a SA body for it to work anyway

the 5-7 mm higher pockets cant be the big reason to send it back or to get another one made right?

Eric.

You have done it again; what a fantastic jacket you have got there. I just do not know anymore which out of all your jackets I like the best; they all look so spot on for detail.

I turn my head away from my computer screen for a couple of seconds and POW you have another amazing jacket.

The spec you have for pocket height and all the other gubbings you should place them in an information page for all hardcore SA Gearheads to use as a reference for there orders.

Well done for hitting the right note with this one as well as your TOD and your wonderfull distressed Raiders.

Thanks for sharing your photos too.

I enjoyed taking a look,

Paul.

Hi,

thanks guys.

AC the HH hide will develope patina and become much more lighter with time.I cant whait actually.I choose this hide cause I was so curious about it and I thought I could use a thick strong hide when I am at work(undercover)

tomorrow I will dress it up with pecards to let it relax more on me.

when I compare the pockets on the jacket on display with mine there is not THAT much of a difference..so...I think I'll hold on to this one..

the linner is black silk linnen to match the linnen of the hero jacket.

Don't bother with the pecards....it won't take any for about a year or two. I tried twice with both the standard P's and the "gel" and neither would soak in....the hide is too dense and the pores too tight.

Better thing to do would just stand outside in the rain for a few hours...99% of it will run off due to the HH being water repellant, but that loosened mine up a little.

Hi Holt!

I may have missed it but just wondering, what size is your jacket? As i am waiting on my jacket to come from Wested. It`s a standard Raiders off the shelf 44.
I went for this size because i wasn`t sure about getting a 42 or a 44. I went and tried on some suit jackets and 42 felt tight in the sleeves, so i went for the Wested 44. I am about 5ft 10 inches tall and average build. What do you think, have i made the right choice? I`m hoping i wont have to exchange it!

Cheers, Mikie.

VERY nice!

You will love the HH.

My Schott is in HH and it is such a, um, classy, authentic, REAL leather. Once I heard of the option, I HAD to have my Moto jacket in Horse Hide.

I don't know their (Wested) HH as compared to Schott's HH, but it seems like the Schott could stop a bullet! I'm guessing the Wested is a bit thinner based on the photos (does the jacket stand on it's own?)

Whatever you do, don't let that one get away. You have a fine jacket that will look fantastic when your grand kids are wearing it!

I was looking at the darkest part of a screen used jacket as being the true colour, but yes camera filters are used too. IMO I think that the colour is right; the lighter areas of wear that are all of over the original jacket will appear over time, and the jacket will then play tricks on your eyes; appearing lighter.

Have I got a good point?

Paul.
