Orvis boots - close enoughs?

Post by CSG »

I came across these on Orvis' website and they are a pretty nice looking pair of boots even if far from SA.

I may order a pair because they look great:

I've always liked them (though I've never owned a pair). These will probably be my next boot purchase.

For $110 I think you could do much better... The Rockport Farnums I have were cheaper than than and definitely look the part better.
And the J.Crew boots from last year were cheaper as well while really looking the Alden part.

Yeah, good luck finding the Rockport Farnums in a variety of sizes these days or the J. Crew boots from last year...

Not everyone wants to dress up *just* like Indy.

Orvis boots

That's a nice boot, and with a far-more-useful sole for the Northeast. LL Bean makes a very nice period boot -- Ironworker/foundry style -- that I like even better than the famous Alden. Though clearly not for those who value Screen Accuracy above all other qualities.

Yes, they seem more practical than the Aldens. Don't get me wrong, the Aldens are uber cool but not really a practical field boot IMO.

Uber-Cool Aldens

The Alden 405 is a superb product BUT I rather/really hate the color, Indy or not. And to get a "practical" sole, you have an upcharge of about $50.00 and I still want the boot in black, or rich-dark-brown, at least. Available, yes, but nearing the $500.00 mark.

Imported

Imported (unless from Italy or England) and 140 or 150 bucks? No thanks. I´ll wait for the Red Wings or Aldens.
