Pictures of the Old Cooper jackets ???
Can someone please post pictures of the old Cooper jackets. I'm specifically looking for shots that show the bottom of the action pleats, apparently they were made like the hero jackets from Temple of Doom.

Oh, believe me I've used the search option and have read (as well as participated in) that very thread. rundquists jacket seems to be the oldest Cooper but he posted no pictures of the open side vents and action pleats, showing the jacket made like this :
And unless they were made this way, then they obviously are not and were not SA to the movie, and therefore couldn't really be used to pattern a "SA" ToD jacket from.

The old Coopers are going to be as close as you're going to get to the actual TofD designed jackets, which were individually made specifically for Ford in personal fitting sessions by Neil Cooper, then hand delivered to the Sri Lanka set to the costume designer.
Like it or not, that's what you're stuck with.

as to your point, the facts are that Neil Cooper did this or that with respect to the movie but it's opinion that says that an old cooper jacket is as close as your gonna get (unless it was a screen used one). Cooper obviously changed the pattern early on, 'cause there doesn't seem to be one anywhere similar to the Hero jacket. You would admit to seeing custom made westeds or whatever else that had a closer resemblance, right? If nothing else, just in pocket size alone, but I could go on. On the otherhand you haven't seen a similar looking Cooper, atleast I haven't and there doesn't seem to be any pictures of 'em either. So it's my opinion that we could do better, if we're discussing screen accuracy as we are.

True, but considering David wants a sample sent, how will one accomplish that, unless (as has been said before) one has a prototype made, then sent to Wings and allowed to be completely disassembled in order to make the patterns? It's documented that there are no originals available for this project. If a company willing to do that, they would just make the jacket order in the first place. (yes, we're right back where we started! )
It could happen, but I don't know anyone with deep enough pockets, or would even care, to spend that kind of money for an item to be destroyed to make 100 jackets.
Oh, and as to the Wested question, the answer is 'no'. The jackets made by Wested (then Leather Conssionaires) were no where close to those seen on screen right after the film came out, but that's another topic....

Maybe it's my name?
Anyway, I'm not resurrecting this to get any arguments started, but I honestly didn't catch the end of this thread the first time around so I wanted to try to clarify my thinking on getting this jacket together (and yes, I'm still working on it, but just more silently ).
I do not believe that the Coopers of the era are spot on TofD jackets. Obviously, they leave something to be desired in several areas. What I did say is that they are the closest thing that can used that are (and this may be the wrong word here) legitimate for the project.
I, by no means, am casting aspersions by what I'm about to say. This is only my own personal feelings on the matter. Several people have suggested that we get hold of a Magnoli (which is a very close jacket) or have Wested create a custom to send to Wings for the prototype. To me this just feels wrong. I don't know how Magnoli arrived at his version of the jacket, but to take his work and send it to Hack for replication just doesn't feel right to me at all. The same with a custom Wested. And I'd hate to venture a guess as to what something like this could mean to Wings in terms of legality.
What I am proposing (and am currently working on) is to to get hold one of the old Cooper jackets and have it altered to reflect TofD specs (and I'm using the excellent spec sheet compiled by Agent5 as my guide in this). In this way, we're getting a jacket close to TofD specs without infringing on any other jacket makers.
Sorry to throw any more gas on the fire here but I wanted to clear up my thoughts.

I just found this in my junk email box. (I've been out of town since last Thursday, and am STILL catching up with email! )
Regards! MichaelsonM,
Please Post: After reading some comments about the US Wings changes and our patterns we would like to explain..... over the years we have changed our patterns per request of COW members to try to satisfy their wishes. If you take 2 people making the same jacket there will be differences ion the jackets unless a robot makes them because they are hand cut and hand sewn. We have found that the pattern we use now is a pattern that 99% of our customers love. We have offered to make a TOD jacket if COW supplies us with a jacket or pattern. Its unfortunate that we can not change our patterns at the request of people in general because if you ask 12 members of COW, you will get 12 different options and suggestions, we have found this to be a fact over the years. As you know, we love the fans and support the fans in any way that we possibly can.
