Post by Chiliana Jones »

looks like dorfman pacific not only has indy hats, but also Dr. Alan Grant's (Jurassic Park) hat, but with the Indiana Jones name on it:

I wouldn't say it's Dr. Grant's hat... it just happens to be a straw hat being sold "indy style".... kinda....

Interesting they've modeled the hat band to resemble Indy's whip. Image

As far as I knew, no one has correctly ID'd that hat Neill wears in JP.

Sigh...

Lacking

Post by Heliograph »

Lacking aroma, bouquet, impudence or presumption. Every time I see a piece of clothing that says "official" I read insipid.

Just got one of these and replaced the band with a strand of wood beads. Could have used a snakeskin or crocodile teeth.

Of course it offers no protection against poison darts or Anacondas.

Is it just me or does the fedora pictured under the "About the Hat" section NOT a DP? :? :-k :-s It looks to good to be a Dorfman.

True, but if you read the "About the Hat" section, it is about the Herbert Johnson hat... So the hat pictured may be a HJ as that entire article is about the HJ.

Probably so...although I absolutly HATE when DP acts like their hats are actually worn in the movies. IE- in the Indiana Jones Movie Magazine it has a quote from HF saying the hat still fits...well it not exactly their hat that still fits because it never even came close to touched his head EVER!

...its a pet peeve of mine if you didn't notice already. IMO, its no different than giving a Coke to somebody who asks for a Dr. Pepper. (Although in the South, the term "coke" doesn't necessarily mean a Coca-Cola but carbonated beverages as a whole  )

Colorado and California too... I don't even drink Coke, but still refer to everything as it.

In their defense, it's not entirely just DP making the hat's and labeling them Indiana Jones. It's also Lucasfilm attatching their property to a hat they can call theirs to sell. I assume it's just as much lucasfilm saying "here's the Official Indiana Jones hat that you can afford, which in turn means we'll actually make money off of it" as DP saying "This is our Indy hat, just like the one in the movies!". Or in other words, DP is the official hat only because it's cheap enough before a license to make it affordable with the license. And half the reason any outrageous claims are made is so that Lucasfilm can get their money out of it too.

Very true....and the sad thing is that no one outside of this small circle of folks here and other forums realize what they are doing when the buy a DP thinking its a SA hat.

But then again, outside our small circle, the sound fx toy whip is costume contest winning material :rolling: They don't usually care about screen accuracy, and probably wouldn't be using it as a tough hat anyway. I just wish they weren't so darn pricey, so I could have one as a collectors item.

I'd wear it after removal of the pin. It's definitely an interesting hat band.
