First, where did you get it from? Second, what size is it, and what size do you suspect you are? Do you think that its smaller than it should be, or that you ordered the wrong size?

Stretching the Hat

Post by YARVTON »

I was in JJ on Thursday and asked Mark about giving a fedora a mine a little stretch. He said it wouldn't be a problem and they do it in the back.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Sending it back at the hatter's request was the best option. A hat can generally be resized a small amount (usually up one size) but if you are trying to make it several sizes larger, you compromise the hat in some way, whether it be in crown height or hat shape. The best option is to always contact the hatter, and if you can exchange it for a proper fit, do so. If you try resizing the hat first and finding out it still doesn't fit, then you're likely stuck with a used hat, since the hatter can no longer sell it as new. You chose wisely.

Back to the Hatter

Post by YARVTON »

Well, now that we have all the details, it's clear that the hat in question is far too small and clearly a mistake. I have a Fed-D'lux that is "rather snug" so a little stretch is just what's needed.
