6 + weeks and finally a Wested With PICS

Post by Cowboy »

I am really trying hard to give Wested a fair shake, but they fast approaching strike out with me.

Ordered a CS in Nova 6 weeks ago. Different story each time I phoned. Last two Mondays before last, I was told that it was or had been shipped. Told by Gemma last Wednesday that it was shipping last Thursday and would be sent a tracking number. Monday, still no tracking number so I emailed again. Was sent tracking number by gemma for some yahoo outfit called ParcelForce. Tracking number is dead. i.e. lost in New York. Has not budged from there it seems since Monday.

Looks like I should have stuck to G&B. Fool me twice....shame on me.

(Pulling the belt off to spank myself......might have to use the buckle end)

Parcel Force is the Standard UK shipping (part of the Royal Mail) , much like USPS. If it's stuck in New York then it is possible that there is a problem in New York (with customs?), not with Parcel Force and also not with Wested. This just sounds like bad luck my friend.

Well it only shipped a few days ago. Still does not explain why it took 5 weeks instead of the 21 days stated on their website.
As for the PF group.......wouldn't their tracking info state something to that affect? They are only open bankers hours......I tried to call.....I hope they never try to come over here and conduct business.

(one whip two whip three whip........owwee, not the buckle  )

To be fair, the 21 days most likely refers to 21 business days, and is most likely a "best-case-scenario" estimate anyway.

Well I was debating whether to get one fom them or not. so after reading many "praises" on here from them I pulled the trigger and ordered a OTR LC/CS washed goat on Sunday night...U.S. PST. Prior to my ordering it, I sent 3 emails to them and ALL were returned and replied to from either Peter or Gemma.

Yesterday, I got an email from Wested saying my order was CANCELLED! No reason or explanation. So I sent an email asking why.....still waiting for THAT reply. So I don't know.... :(

Whoo now that is WEIRD! It's obviously the middle of the night here now so you are unlikely to get a response in the next few hours. I've never heard of them cancelling orders before.

Cowboy, 21 working days plus the busiest time they have ever experienced due to the little matter of KOTCS being released about the time you ordered? Mmm?

true!!! it is 21 business days, monday thru friday. they are not open on saturday or sunday. i recieved one of my jackets in as little as two weeks from order to my doorstep. another took six weeks, they were out of novapelle. it seems that it is a really popular hide. if it is stuck in NY, then it is a customs issue i would bet...

I think there might be some agreement that Wested's communication is often less than perfect.

In my opinion they really need to think about how they handle the communication with the orders - i.e. sending automatic emails with tracking numbers when an order ships.

Problem is, due to the poor tracking info, I am not sure what is going on. Is it tied up in customs and if so, why and how long?

KT........They can change their site anytime........But in my work, a deadline is a deadline no matter how many resources I need to throw at it or if I do not like it, I negotiate PRIOR to accepting payment.

Over here, if some one says 10 business days it is accepted as 2 weeks. Wested quotes 21 days......Why not 20. The 21 would imply Calendar to me.

I am really hoping that I can give Wested a positive review on the design and quality of their work this time around. My last go around as you know, has not been so good. But I am willing to give one more fair shot to them too since I have been so out-spoken tough on them to date.

kt -
The email was sent to them YESTERDAY..I'm aware of the time zone difference but their other emails / replies were very quick.

First email said: your order status is PROCESSING.

I got a confirmation email from PAYPAL with GPB info..pricing etc.

Gemma even told me that I would be receiving it within the next 7 days.

So I'm thinking GREAT!!!! :D :D

Then the "your order has been CANCELLED"

I hope they at least tell me why. I undertsand things happen. But they should say "Hey, we're sorry but the jacket you ordered is out of stock or no longer available" or whatever. But yes I will give them another day to reply....

Yup, I hope so too.

As for resources, There are none, so little leather jackets are made over here now there are no people you can draft in. Unfortunately you can't phone up Office Angels for a leather cutter or machinist, you have to train one! Wested are not the only ones who've had longer and longer lead times. Note: Steve, Todd, Marc... this is an extraordinary time.

The introduction of the OTR's have made a big difference, and it seems like some people are getting their customs pretty fast. You seem to be particularly unlucky. Perhaps you should talk to Mag? :).

I can attest to that. I received my custom Raiders two weeks after I ordered it.

Sorry to hear you're having so many problems with your order Cowboy.

Hi guys,

This is a really unlucky situation. :!: It might be the case that Peter has ran out of stock of some items or that he has problems with his outsourced suppliers. :-k

From what I know, his standard offerings, including OTR Raiders and LC jackets made from the standard leathers are always on time. The order is on time especially when the jackets are custom made.

I fear that situation at Wested is out of control these days. For a new jacket I suggest you to wait 3-4 months or more...

We live in a time where everyone wants something, and they want it yesterday, even if what they want are custom, made-to-measure garments.

To date, I've owned three Wested jackets. Never once have I had an issue with them, as far as getting what I want/ordered, and getting it by the time I needed to have it. Gemma or Peter has always responded to me in a timely fashion. As with any business, mistakes will occur every here and there. That's no reason to talk bad about a fellow's business practices or assume that the business as a whole is "dropping the ball." Mistakes happen, we're human. You can either accept that, or you can't.

Wested is a purveyor of an item that was used on screen, and they also happen to be the least costly jacket out there that won't fall apart on you in a week. G&B is over 400$, last I checked, and if memory serves, so is TN. That's going to make a Wested a very popular and highly requested item. Perhaps Wested's site may need a little updating to accommodate for longer lead times due to the increased influx of orders. That much, I'll agree to.

You can't really pin something that happens with Parcel Force on Wested, though.

The first time I ordered my jacket (LC Custom in Novapelle), Wested made it in 1 month.

I had to send it back because it was too big. We exchanged a lot of mail with Gemma and she always answered quickly. So they made a new one (this time a CS Custom in Novapelle) and it took barely 20 days.

They just forgot my custom label but I don't mind, finally I like it more without the custom label.

I hope everything will sort it out for you, Cowboy.

I think that it depends on the leather used. Novapelle, and CS washed etc. are made of a more processed leather than the simple processed lamb, goat etc.
My guess is that usually lambskin, horsehide and goatskin custom raiders or LC arrive on time. I am stating that because I ordered one Custom Authentic Raiders a month ago and guess what...it arrived on time...well, two days late to be exact :D

Well Bully for you! I couldn't care less about the cost Strider.......that is not why I purchased the jacket.

As far as parcel force goes......I disagree with you. It is Wested's problem UNTIL it arrives at my door and I sign. I paid for a product from them. THEY are the ones who ship it and They are the ones pick the carriers THEY use.

For the record:
*My first order never went through even though the order form said it had

*I had to send a few emails to confirm the second order was processed and that my request had been clear.

*I made several calls to Wested and was told a different story each time. Sorry we are behind, It was shipped last week and it should be delivered tomorrow, Sorry but it is just now being made and will ship tomorrow, etc. All in that order.

The jacket IF it arrives had better be great to wash this @#$% out of my mouth.

If my memory serves me corectly, Parcel Force only takes the pakkage as far as customs. After that it will be at customs until it clears, after which a U.S. company will take it to you.

In my experience with ordering overseas, tracking kinda stops at customs. I even had something I ordered delivered while the tracking told me it was in customs 5 minutes before that.

I kind of disagree that anny delay at customs could be the respocebility of wested. Well, unles they put a bomb in there with your jacket

Cowboy, I received my custom goatskin CS jacket from Wested in June. It took 47 days from the date of order, delivered to Canada. So, hopefully that means yours is coming soon. I didn't get the ParcelForce notice for some reason, so it was a nice surprise when it suddenly showed up.

Personally, I didn't think that was an outrageous amount of time, given that it's being made in England, Wested makes their jackets in-house, I didn't order off-the-rack and Peter is extra busy due to the increase in demand in jackets in an Indy film year, especially given that it's the first film year with internet ordering. We all no doubt have our own expectations as to how long is a reasonable wait, but for me, 47 days wasn't out of line in these types of circumstances.

Hey ALL
Just wanted to make a clarification on my previous post. I need to make a retraction.....
it seems in my excitement and tired eyes I didn't read the "CANCELLED ORDER" email carefully. Gemma has since replied and explained that apparently I placed 2 orders and that only one was PROCESSED...the one I want. The other one (order) was not charged to my card / account.
So it seems that the world is good again...ha! at least for this minor thing for me.
Will let you guys know when I get it.....Now if only I would get my indy bag from Ma***** that I ordered a month and a hlaf ago I'll be set.

Thanks guys

What does the cost of a G&B have to do with a communication/shipping problem with Wested? :?

To me, that says that because Wested sells a cheaper product people need to expect sub-par customer service?

Wested is responsible for setting their prices and deciding how to make the business work. It's not like they are giving the products away for free. When people start comparing the prices of different manufacturers they are entering a very grey area. Given the weak dollar against the pound right now, Westeds aren't exactly inexpensive. If a G&B is $75 to $100 more than a Wested (to me that's not a large price) are you getting a $100 better jacket? Are you getting faster service?

The value of the dollar is pretty much irrelevant. The Wested jacket is pretty affordable in it's own country compared to any other jacket you can get here.

You might as well ask SpeedracerX how much she is enjoying the fact that her jacket is cheaper seeing as the euro is so strong against the pound.

I think Peter should take Steve's lead personally, "It'll take as long as it takes, if it has not been made yet, here's your money."

Just for those who have been waiting patiently and hopefully for me to voice my opinion  I thought I would weigh in...

I like Wested's product, and Peter seems like a nice guy - I just went with G&B b/c of customs charges and shipping an incorrect fit would have taken longer IMO from NY to the UK than NY to LA.

Anyway, if it makes anyone feel better, G&B IS running a bit behind, and the wait time for an Expo is about 1 month.

Bottom line, since most of us are in the Northern Hemishphere anyway, what's the real difference? Its not as if we can wear the jackets outside for 2 months...

And frankly, it the maker feels they need an extra few weeks to make it just right, they can have it and then some. Hopefully we will have our jackets for 40+ years depending on how old you are, so what's a few more weeks in the long run?

If Wested is behind on orders, how hard would it be to put up a page on the website explaining this? Simply put a disclaimer that says: Due to the high demand we are currently behind on orders and shipping times may take up to X days/weeks/months.

I was simply saying people are somehow equating the costs of the jackets to the qulaity of the customer service/shipping speed and that's not really fair.

The examples that some people get a jacket in two weeks while some are waiting double that time or longer says there is either something problematic with the shipper or the way the orders are processed.

It has nothing to do with the cost of a G&B or whose jacket is "better".

Actually, when the hype dies down I might try again with Wested, but I really wish they had more even customer service.

No argument there, KT, but if he does, he really needs to remove this statement from his FAQ area on the Wested website:
6. How long is delivery?

As each jacket is custom made and not of the shelf we quote a maximum of 21 days to despatch plus 2/3 days delivery on a tracked system which will require a signature.
Steve makes no such statement on his website or when an order is taken. Peter himself set the time from order to delivery.

I agree, should be "average" rather than maximum (if it is that) and state:

Custom jackets are currently taking up to... due to unprecedented demand following the new film.

Personally, I think he should eliminate the statement all together, as the nature of the craft sometimes keeps them from being able to hit an exact shipping date, no matter HOW hard they try to make the self imposed deadline.

You're right, at the moment I'm buying a lot of things from the US (since the dollar is so low compare to the euro) I'm even thinking of buying an original MK VII from What Price Glory

And I ordered some pecard in England it's still cheaper (even with the shipping cost) compare to some products in France

But I'm careful because a lot of my money goes in to my car (gazoil price is 1.41€ /l)

But regardless of the different value of moneys I think Wested prices are really reasonable for the products and services they offer compare to others

You and Michaelson NAILED IT!!! SAY WHAT YOU MEAN AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY!!!

Don't expect me to give them a pass just because of the movie hype. His site says what he agrees to deliver. IF he said it will take 6 mos I expect 6 mos (would not order it most likely) and if it is 21 days....21 days. BTW, the LC I ordered 2 years ago took just as long if not longer.....so I do not buy into the BS that this is just due to the movie overload.

To bring up my comments again. I really want to give this jacket High Praises cause it looks like a real winner an sounds like a real winner. But I knew what was possibly in store when I pressed the order button. Peter, the lack of communication (customer has to drive it or no info at all) from Wested gives you two black eyes IMO. THe customer should never have to call YOU to be informed of an order status when that order has exceeded the guaranteed delivery time. G&B called me when they shipped it and again when I received it! You say many times to call you and you will be happy to talk with us.....Well you can pick up a phone too you know!

Finally, yes, I understand that if it is lost in customs, it is out of their control...HOWEVER.......they can at least get on the horn and once again assure the CUSTOMER of the status and that they even care. (Can anyone say Sgt Hack) Anyone else with me on this? Peter, if this jacket is built as good as folks like KT are bragging about……I will certainly order from you again……..I am really counting on you buddy. Don’t let me down!

Well guys I got a knock on my door a few minutes ago and who was it???
The mailman bringing me a package! What's inside? My WESTED jacket!!!
ORdered it on Sunday night, and here we are Thurs. morning and I'm wearing it!
It is BEAUTIFUL!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
The only thing I think I'm going to have to return it for the next size up  it fits a bit snug in the shoulder area. Could be the sleeves are a bit short. When I extend my arms, the sleeves slide up a good 2 - 2 1/2 inches. However, while standing with my arms straight down my sides the sleeves go about 2 inches past my wrists.
I know I need to lose a few more pounds, so what to do?

Keep it and see if it strecthes / breaks in? OR go up a size?

Thanks

I know I need to lose a few more pounds, so what to do?

Keep it and see if it strecthes / breaks in? OR go up a size?

Thanks

Solo

BULLY FOR YOU TOO.
(with smirk on my face) But isn't yours a OTR???? This thread (coming from the chief of off topic remarks) is about the "Custom" side of Wested. IF it was custom.......you should buy a lottery ticket.

Well...I know you were going on about how great G&B customer service is but I just ordered a G&B Expo and I had to contact THEM to find out what was going on. The emails were short and to the point and generally to a good standard, but I had to go to them. They ended up SENDING it over a week later than they said it would arrive at my door. I probably still won't receive it for at least a week, but probably more (things get held up each way when being sent over the Atlantic), which will make it 2-3 weeks later than they told me. Am I banging on about it!!?? NO! "stuff" happens. I really don't see it as such a big deal. May rattle is staying well and truly in my pram

Solo, I doubt it'll stretch. I probably would have held on to the my Wested but it was oddly tight in the arms - right where you stick your arm into the sleeve or bicep area. I do lift a little weight but doubt my upper arms are too much bigger than average.

Cowboy wrote:As far as parcel force goes......I disagree with you. It is Wested's problem UNTIL it arrives at my door and I sign. I paid for a product from them. THEY are the ones who ship it and They are the ones pick the carriers THEY use.
So I guess a company is responsible for damage to boxes that occurrs during shipping due to the carelessness of whatever handler (UPS, FEDEX, USPS, etc.) ships the package, simply because the company chose to ship it with that particular shipping company. I see! So in essence, what someone else does is my fault. Makes so much sense. 8)

I haven't had any problems with the customer service I have recieved from Wested at this point in time. My first purchase several weeks ago was for an OTR Raiders jacket. It was taking longer than I thought it should to recieve so I contacted them by email a few times and the responses were always quick I even recieved a response on a weekend day. The problem was "MY" fault as I incorrectly entered my zip code.

I ordered my custom Raiders jacket yesterday evening recieved my order confirmation at 4:00 am EST this morning and then read a post by Kt stating one of my request wasn't SA for a Raiders jacket so I picked up the phone and called. Gemma answered and said she would change the request for me. I will send a follow up e-mail tomorrow morning just to make sure.

I do agree that Wested should change some of their statements on the website, but have always assumed that 21 days plus 2-3 days shipping meant 4 full weeks from order to item recieved.

Excellent point, and much appreciated, Tuck.

The very next time I get a buggered up box from the U. S. Postal service, which I use more than anyone else.....I'll blame......YOU! :D

It finally came.......Peter Parcel Force is a Joke......their tracking is useless.

Now about the jacket......just let me say, that opening it up and pulling it out..........I have a sneaking suspicion that this is gonna be a great review.

I am going to sit on it for a few days before any response, but here are two observations....ok three.

1. It looks like it is better made than my old LC Cowhide

2. Everything on my list was furnished

3. Nova is an awesome leather to say the least.

Stay tuned Hombres. (For those of you in Rio Linda, Hombre means Men)

Like I said before: tracking usually stops when the item is in customs. I find this to be true for allmost all companies.

I am glad you got your jacket and cant wait to read a full review

Cowboy,

Glad to hear you received your Wested, and from your initial reaction, you're very satisfied. Personally, I don't understand all of the negative press Peter gets. He has catered to our requests of obtaining the ultimate Indy jacket (from the same man who is directly responsible for providing the film-used jackets), whereas most vendors would say "this is what I'm making - take it or leave it." If your Wested is anything like my two, I'm sure your review will be full of praise and applause. I'm reminded of the saying "Good things come to those that wait." This should be the IndyGear motto.

Not meaning to thread hijack, but it seems I'm about to have to opposite Wested experience to Cowboy!
I placed an order for a custom Novapelle LC on the 27th of June.
I received an email from Wested with an order number on the 30th of June, after calling and speaking directly to Peter.
And today, I have a ticket from my Post Office to collect an EMC International Courier parcel, after 4pm, sadly, when I'll be at work.
So, could it be? I have nothing else coming from overseas (I'm in Australia), so I can't think what else it could be.
UK to Australia post is usually pretty fast (they feel bad for sending us to this desert island 200 years ago, so the Brits look after us!), but that would be a very quick turn around regardless.
Anyway, I may be proved wrong, and will let you all know as soon as I go go and pick it up.

One Wested jacket! Initial impressions are good, very good!
It fits! It smells awesome too! :)

Glad to hear you've finally got your jacket and I hope it's ok.

In my experience international tracking can be a bit hit and miss unless you use a truly international carrier such as UPS or FedEx and even then it's less than perfect. Parcel Force (more commonly known as Parcel Farce in this country) is not the only carrier with these problems. I've had many items posted from the US and while their movements within the US were well documented once they got to the UK it was pot luck whether there'd be any further updates before they were actually delivered. Maybe Wested should offer a UPS or FedEx option but it would undoubtedly cost more.

They have a infinitely simpler job with international packages: Get them back to the depot. Someone else will sort and then on to the airport!

When they have the job of delivering a package to someone in the UK they seem to have the usual delivery malaise. They just don't seem to want to do it. They usually don't knock on your door and just write out the card and put it through so you have to go to the depot and get it.

I'd heard that they don't have to unload their vans when they get back to the depot themselves so you can put two and two together: Get home much quicker when they don't bother lugging your parcels out of the van.
