Some more hat pics

Post by BendingOak »

Here are the three hats that I have been working on for the past month or so. I have made them, stripped them down, re-blocked them, and put them together again. I've done this about a half a dozen ( for each hat). I have done this to learn and to work out some of the details. I'm getting very happy with the end results.

I have placed orders for most of all the parts I will need and they will be in my hands ( hopefully soon). There is still one part I haven't locked into, until this one thing is worked out I won't have any prices.

1st up is a C-crown hat made from rabbit felt and the old ribbon ( just using it to learn).

Image

2nd is the better quality Rabbit felt with the ribbon that I will be using. I went with a CS style to it.

Image

3rd. is the pure beaver felt with the new ribbon that I will be using. I went with the Raiders look on this one. I wanted to show of the ribbon with the " flying V. "

Great work! Can't wait to see more! Looks like hats one wouldn't mind to pay a wad of dough for.

Whoa, You can really see the diffrence in the ribbon. That ribbon on the c-crown looks just awful. But the new ribbon is a vast improvement, in fact it almost looks like the vintage ribbon AB, AB Delux, Mags HJ's have on them. Now, I know there's no way Steve or Marc would give it up so...new source? You don't have to answer that (I know a hatter has to have their secrets) , I'm just kind of museing aloud. The bow looks great by the way but I'm just wondering, does the corner of the bow that sticks up a bit under the aft bit of the bow, need to come up just a tiny bit more? Not as high as the Fed's but about as high as an AB or Mags'HJ? Just wondering.

As for the hats. They look great. The c-crown...not realy my bag but the Raiders and CS hats, I'd wear those right now!

Thanks for the kind words gents.

JF, It's not the vintage stuff of Steve and Marc. It's a nice dark brown almost black ( darker than showing up in these pics). It's a lot nicer than what I was using. It has a finished edge to it.
As for the height of the back of the bow. I have been using my 4 AB's to model it after.

The hat looks phenominal Oak. You know, I really wanted to get this one in gray because I wanted a travel hat, but these photos have changed my mind. I will definately be taking one in brown. I hope you get that one thing down soon...I'm really excited about this. Any chance of this being done by my birthday, July 18? That would be one hekuva birthday present!

Actually, I kind of like the C-dent myself. All we HAVE (the majority of us) are the fore to aft bash. Something different would be nice to wear every once in a while...

I like the c-dent as well, but prefer the center dent. In fact, I was watching The Untouchables a few nights ago and took notice of Kevin Costner's gray fedora which had a tall crown and wide brim with a tight pinch, very Raiders-esque, only it was c-dent. I wouldn't mind something like that. But the Indy is my favorite. Speaking of which, any news, Oak?

hats

Post by BendingOak »

There is a bit of a update. I got in my supply of ribbons last week. Today I got my liners in, They look great. I did find the sweatbands that I want to use but he's taking off for a couple of weeks. That will slow things down for me but should only delay it for a couple of weeks. These are the last couple of things I need to Start selling.

Well that actually works out for me (way to be selfish eh?) so I can get some more money together and wont have to dig into my credit card for this. So since you ahve everything together, any idea on a price range?

I don't think he has announced. I've kept an eye or two on this and haven't heard anything. I would assume that since all the parts are ready to go (except the sweats that won't be ready for a couple of weeks) the price should be just around the corner.
