I've owned two wool felt hats.
The first was the TOD Stetson from back in the late 80's. It was the "official" hat with no liner and a picture of Indy on it.
It was garbage. It was too dark. The ribbon was lighter than the hat. The brim was way too short. In fact, it looked more like Sean Connery's hat it was so bad. I let my stepdad cut it up to look like Goober's hat from Andy Grifith and he gave it to my nephew.
I owned a second one. It shrunk. I plan on destroying it by fire.
Wool = t3h sux0r. Get a fur felt hat. If you're pinching pennies, buy Fed IV. Akubra makes good stuff for the money.

If you can afford to go with a fur felt, do it. There are many good hats under $200 that are vastly superior to wool. Based on personal experience, I'd recommend Akubra or JPD... but there are others out there I've never owned.
If you must go wool, do your research. Some wool hats are nothing more than bad costume items, and some are not much better. The best of the wools seems to be the Christy's Wool Adventurer, based on word of mouth here.

The Christy's Wool is beautiful as a display / costume Indy hat! (Obviously, I have one!)Chewbacca Jones wrote:The best of the wools seems to be the Christy's Wool Adventurer, based on word of mouth here.
But still anyone knows this is not a “real” hat, meaning it won’t stand the use and the elements, but quite cheap for such a good looking hat though!

Not a lot of point when you can get the fur felt Christys Adventurer for $99 (£50 UKP) plus shipping from Hornet's Hats in London:

A surprisingly good hat for very little money, and increasingly popular at the low end of the market!
