ok, i added new pics to my original post. . . those jeans were a lower rise jean. did i gain the necessary length in the jacket by switching to my "close enoughs" or do you guys feel it's still too short. i just wanted to give you a little more data to work with. please let me know what you think.
thanks!
thanks!

To my eye (untrained as it is), the jacket does appear a bit short, and the sleeves a bit long.
Like a good poodle, I have been trained by COWers to look carefully, and the sleeves come to your knuckles, rather than just past your wrist.
As for the jacket bottom, I look for it to fall in the middle of that half-circle item surrounding the zipper, about 3-4" below the belt.
As for the other criteria, when open and closed it is a good fit width-wise, and don't need to look at a larger size up or down. Would the manufacturer be able to cut a new, longer jacket?

i think i'm diggin' the fit. . . . honestly, it's really hard to judge by the pictures alone. when i move around in the jacket, it seems to respond as i think it should, for example, when i extend my arm out (as if to shake a hand), the sleeve comes right to the bottom of my wrist, and with the wrinkles forming in the sleeves, they don't quite hit my knuckles as much when my arm is relaxed (i think if the sleeves were any shorter, when i shake a hand the sleeve would retreat too far back and look too short). i'll get another pic up with all the gear (so far) on and it may give a better representation. i looked at so many pictures of so many jackets and some that the owner thought fit perfect, others say look big, on other jackets owners thought were small others thought were perfect. . . . and there are so many views on the same jacket in the same thread one can go crazy trying to figure this out i definitely appreciate all the feedback, keep it coming!

I think your jacket looks better in those last 2 pics. It does seem shorter in the body than my jacket, but longer in the sleeves. It may just be different body types filling this jacket out differently. I would be happy to post some more pics of my Todd's standard here for comparison if you like, but if you like the way your jacket fits, that's what counts.

Don't worry...
Once you hit the gym, you'll need a different jacket anyway.
I paid close attention to Raiders last time I watched it. It seems the back of the jacket ends about mid-butt on Indy. Having said that, yours does fall slightly short but I think it looks better than one that will hang long and make you look as if you are a child wearing daddy's jacket . I have that problem being in between sizes myself.
well, i definitely appreciate all the feedback, ummm even Webley Jones' ha! i think the general consensus is that it is a bit short, but unless it is custom tailored, it's going to be difficult finding something that fits correctly in all areas; other than that (which i can certainly live with) i think this jacket is a great item for the price. anyone on the fence about whether or not to pull the trigger on this, i don't think you would be disappointed. it is amazing how much different it looks (in just a short time) from when it first arrived. it should really look great by the time i have the funds to order a custom from one of the many vendors out there thanks again!

I think it's a darn good match for the jacket in most of Raiders. The jacket in the opening sequence was a bit longer, true. The sleeves were longer, as well. But in most of the film the jackets all seem a bit shorter than that first one we see.
Curious thing...... for years it seems the general idea on this board has been that the Raiders jacket was distinctly shorter than those of the other films. I've often heard it described as "waist length", which I think is dead wrong. It seems from the comments in this thread opinions are finally changing on that!! Your jacket isn't as long as the "Chachapoyan" jacket, but it matches quite well to the rest of the film.
And, yes modern pants make a huge difference in the Raiders jacket fit. I've read here many times that, according to Noel Howard, the Raiders pants were high-waisted. That was the style of the 30's. Heck, even you compare pants from the time of Raiders (80's)..... everything these days seems to ride much lower. Also if you're a guy with a bit of a gut (in that boat with you, hope we don't sink) your gut will push any pants down even lower than that. A person's beltline is a poor "landmark" to gauge the length of a jacket by. Not everyone has the same beltline, and some guys just wear their pants wrong all together (I do).
I usually look at where the pocket is vs. where the peorson's hands are. Pants may have evolved over the past 30 years, arms really haven't Again, that jacket looks just fine to me!

I think it looks pretty good. I'm 5'9.5" and 173 as well (well on the way to my preferred 165). I'm looking at the same jacket. What suit jacket size do you wear? OTR 42Rs fit me pretty well when standing normally, but ride up whem my arms are extended in front since few have pleats in the back. I'm hoping Todd's Large will fit the same plus cover my arms better due to the back design.
Here in the South a thin jacket is almost all I'll ever need. I'm planning on a heavier G&B or Wested should I ever venture back North, but Todd has the right price and weight for me now.

suit jacket-wise i believe i'm a 40R. . . been a while since i've needed to wear one.jason10mm wrote:I think it looks pretty good. I'm 5'9.5" and 173 as well (well on the way to my preferred 165). i emailed todd early on in the thread (once fear and paranoia took over) and (upon reviewing the thread) he has assured me that there are no variations in length regarding his jackets. by the time i heard back from todd, i had already decided that i was 100% happy with my purchase and am loving it more everyday. . . though it probably won't see the outside until december here in florida!
i don't think anyone would regret purchasing this jacket if you choose to do so. i know mine is going to get a lot of use come fall, winter and spring!
It's perfect, but...
... would look even better if you wore "high-waisted" or as I might term them "proper" trousers. Try a pair of pleated Bill's Khakis for a different but closer-to-period look.

How long is that jacket from the beginning of the collar to the bottom of the jacket? My close-enough jacket seems too long on me and thus has never really looked right. I've noticed that a more form-fitting jacket lends itself to a very "Indy" look, as is with every other piece of gear. That being said, I think your jacket looks great!

Just Say No!
Indy never wore jeans, so why should you? Aside from the fact that blue denim is "ugly" in my view, jeans are always too short on the torso -- from the bottom -- and the jacket is rather short from the other direction.
