Raiders jacket size?

Post by Alex »

I tried using the search function but every time it gave me nearly 6000 threads to look through.

So here is the dumb question of the day........What size is the jacket Harrison wore in Raiders? I heard 40 on another site but that can't be right considering he is suppose to be over 6feet tall.?

Men's jacket sizes are primarily based on their chest measurement, not their height. According to this thread...

viewtopic.php?t=30267&highlight=harriso ... acket+size

...Ford wore a size 40 in Raiders. Granted it was a custom-made jacket, but considering his height of 6'1" at the time, the measurements quite probably approximated that of a 40 Long/Tall jacket rather than a 40 Regular.

I am 6'1" tall, 200 lbs., and I wear a 44 Long; a 44 Regular is too short on me, particularly the sleeves.

The only reason I asked is because someone mentioned they saw Ford and Armstrong once and were taken back at their size both height and width. To be 6'1" and wear a 40R seems weird to me. I am 5'10" and wear a 44R. I must be one of those thick built folks then.

Based on the photos you've posted in various forums I'd say you're stockier/more muscular than Ford, which would account for the difference. I was quite surprised when I saw his Han Solo costume during the Star Wars prop/costume tour last year; despite the way he looks on-screen, he really has a slim physique.

It would be interesting to have the size measurements. A lot of us...myself included found TODDs new large shirt to fit great...and considering this was supposed to be off original measurements you would hope to think a jacket made from original measurements to fit well too.

The jacket Harrison wore was that "80's cut", sleeker and closer-fitting to the body than the Wested normally sold. Look at some photos at the time to see just how slender he was in the early 80's -- and of course he's still thin, though I think a bit more "weight-trained" for Indy IV.

I'm 6-ft, and far-from scrawny, but I don't have big shoulders and arms, so many size 40 jackets fit me -- sometimes much better than my "usual" size 42. Of course the labeled size may be meaningless -- all that matters is for the Jacket to fit YOU.

Going even further, I'm 6' 1", 175 lbs., and my Wested is essentially a 38 Long. It takes all sizes.

Yea....I guess I am a bit stockier than Harrison since I am 185 most of the time. I trimmed down to 172 last year at Dragoncon for my Leonidas costume but this year I am going for more size and not as concerned with weight.

I have vacillated back on forth on this for a week since receiving a 44-long reference jacket from G&B.

I am 5-10 1/2" and while I like a longer fit closer to KoTCS, this jacket is meant to be a shorter, light-weight jacket for spring and fall.

The wife felt the 44-L was too long, but I'm concerned that a 44-R will be too short if I wear it over an un-tucked t-shirt. Decisions, decisions...
