I found this gun while looking for an alternative to the Todd's modified gun - so what do you think with some new grips could it work?

That one's been mentioned in a couple of threads floating around here. The consensus is that the black plastic piece behind the trigger guard is removable, and then it's a pretty good "close enough."

No, the grips can't be replaced - the frame under the grips is not shaped correctly and the gas cylinder protrudes too far. I looked into these along with all of the available airsoft contenders for modification. The Tanaka was the only one you can replace the grips on with the proper ones. And there is a metal frame inside to provide a secure mount for the lanyard ring.
