Whip strand question

Post by Gerrit »

At the end of my whip a strand isn’t close braided.
It is about 9 inches from the fall.
I only have cracked this whip twice.

Is this something to worry about?

Nope. These things happen but it's nothing to worry about.

Yeah, it either looks the area where the number of strands got dropped. Right around there you need to transition from a higher number of higher strands to a lower number. Also, it looks like the taper of the lace was a little bit severe. But like Kyle said, it's nothing to worry about.

Ditto Gerrit, I wouldn't worry about that at all.

The_Edge, Sergei, Paul and Molorom, thank you for answering.

I’m not worried anymore.

Paul, I managed to do a Multiple Crack!
An Under Hand crack, followed by a Forward Crack and a Horizontal Overhead Crack.
I just followed the instructions on your DVD.
I really can’t believe I was able to do this. (I received my whip this weekend and have never used a whip before).

Molorom, I used the whip for 2 periods of cracking, I don’t know how long I used the whip, time flies when you are having fun, but maybe 45 minutes in total.
I bought this whip from a well-known Whipmaker and when this is normal I don’t mind.
The whipmaker is not Paul Stenhouse, I bought his DVD.

Thanks,
Gerrit

Dear Gerrit,

Excellent news! Please tell me you were wearing some protective clothing while trying this :whip:

I'm really pleased that you were able to complete this crack. From there, you can open up a whole new world of multiple and trick cracking. Keep in mind, too, that I'm not that good at whipcracking compared to people who compete. I'm lazy, so I try to make the whipcracking as easy as possible. (Actually, I'm not lazy, but I'm trying to demonstrate that whipcracking doesn't usually involve much muscle, but more form).

Paul, you are too funny. This reminds me of something my Dad always told me. I remember it 35 years later.

"Give the hardest job to the laziest person and he will find the easiest way to accomplish it."

I am paraphrasing since my memory is not that good. By the way I am not insinuating that you are lazy - just repeating advice...

Rick 5150,

Right on! That just about hits the nail on the head. Maybe I really am lazy since I always do try to find the easiest way to do something.

Well, shoot. All this time I thought I was a hard worker [-(

I like that quote. That's good.

Best Regards,

Paul Stenhouse
