Pre-distressed cowhide or goat? Depends on what you're expecting. :-k

Michaelson is right, depend on what jacket style you like more.
Personally I prefer novapelle, because I like the CS jacket style.

I have both Novapelle and a washed goat. Novapelle is thicker and I prefer it for colder days. My washed goat is thin and light and is great for cool summer nights!

You still wouldn't be happy Mississippi.

If you buy one, you regret not owning the other.

If you own both, you can only wear one at a time, and you'll be unhappy that one is hanging in the closet while the other is on your back. :(

It's a never ending struggle..... ](*,)

I agree, Michaelson. I'm just going to learn to be content with what I get. I've figured out that in this hobby, that's the only way to survive.

Both hides are quite nice, and equal to most physical tasks. Here would be my deciding factors.
1. Do I prefer "the right look"? - Novapelle.
2. Am I likely to wear it in the rain a lot? - Goat.
3. If I want a warmer jacket. - Novapelle (it's cow hide).
4. If I want a lighter jacket. - Goat.
5. If I want a jacket that will probably never look distressed naturally. - Goat.

Those would be my main concerns. I could find a use for both, but my immediate needs/wants would come first. Of course, since I have a goatskin jacket, but not a Novapelle... :D

Well, you could. But I wouldn't want to see what the distressing did to the person wearing the jacket. Goatskin in extremely resilient. The only distressed-look goatskin jackets I have seen were hand distressed or specifically manufactured to look that way. Normal wear (or "natural distressing") just isn't enough to get that look.

A friend of mine has owned two goatskin jackets (non-Indy), and he is brutal on everything he owns. The stitches gave out on his first one but the leather still looked new. The only change was that it became softer, that's it. His current one, now about 6 years old, looks almost like it just came off the store rack. It has not been treated well, either.

I really like everything I've seen on Wested's novapelle. I think a last crusade like Castor's would be great. Now if only I had more money

Nice!.......I just love my Novapelle....To me, Wested hit the "Bullseye" with this jacket as far as color and the overall "look" is concerned. It's got that classic "vintage" look that I have yet to see in any other jacket. The leather has just the "right" amount of distressing out-of-the-box......enough to make it look like it's been through some adventures but not too much to make it look "fake." Until my TN arrives, this is my favorite jacket so far.

That looks quite a bit different from the photos on Wested's website, which make the Novapelle appear to be a warmer/richer shade of brown. The color of your jacket looks much more screen accurate. I'm starting to wonder if anything in the world of Indiana Jones ever photographs the same color twice.

BTW, that's a beautiful jacket Louisiana Jones! Now I'm really looking forward to receiving mine.

I saw that thread. Again, beautiful jacket! I just hope the measurements I sent Wested will result in a jacket that fits the way I want it to. [-o<

I totally hear ya, Zombie... I was nervous but the measurements came out perfect (they just got which movie version of the jacket wrong, but I'd rather that be wrong than sizing).
