Well folks my first "quality" Fedora has arrived.
I've been wearing a Leather Fedora with preset bashes for years. It has kept my head dry (except when sweating) and the sun off my face and neck... It's been through its share of ice & snow and hot sunny days.
While it has never been (nor was it originally intended to be SA) it elicited many shouts of INDY! and the like through my Junior High, High School and the Beginning of my College Years.
It was in College that it began to taper and look weathered. My cats got at it several times because it smelled (and tasted so good). Thus the hat literally is scarred.
To put it simply it was about that time that I began to loose interest in the hat and my then my x-girlfriend put it to bed for good ... or ... so I thought.
Indy IV came out and back came the Indy bug... The music and the silly quips...My old Fedora and I were one again. While I may have elicited some jeers with my old leather fedora from COW members (or general populace) I just laugh. The whole point of the hat always was that I liked it and didn't care what any one else thought.
Well I saw Indy IV and got bit hard by the SA bug. It's no lie that I've always loved everything Ford ever did. Han Solo was the second guy (my dad was first) that I wanted to be. Indy was just icing on the cake of cool.
Several years ago, a friend of mine suggested I read up here.
Well that was several years ago and I honestly thought looking at it that you all were a bunch of crazies... Maybe taking things a little bit too far...
Indy IV comes out and I remember COW.
Unfortunately that only strengthened the nagging yet feeble resolve in the back of my head.
I kept reading COW and that nag grew into the well know G.A.S. that is also prevalent in guitar communities. Pretty soon I was well versed in the "Indy Budget" and bugging the admin to activate my account faster!
Anyway.. I pulled the trigger and as the post title may suggest, it came today. I leave tomorrow for San Diego for a trip of unspecified duration so I'm glad to have this fine lid on my head. I convinced myself all week long it wouldn't arrive before leaving so as not to be disappointed. I'm so glad I was wrong.
Working with Hat's Direct was one of the most positive online shopping experiences I've had. I was deathly afraid that it would sit on my porch lonely while I was away... a good 3000 mi away.
Pictures soon to come .. probably in the Fed IV picture thread.
I posted this independently because I thought some of you might want to hear (your story) again.
Cheers and with a ford like smirk on my face,
RC325

Just remember, the bash you put in on the first day won't hold that much, so don't go too overboard right at the bat. Since you're going on a trip, you have some time to work on it to get it just right. I posted pics of my Fed IV when I first got it. Now, they look like two totally different bashes.
Anyway, out of curiosity, are you using one of the foam pieces? Also, what type of bash are you planning to put in?
P.S. Glad you like it, and welcome to the club.

Because someone here said "why do guitarists always have to wear Fedoras..."
Fed IV & My Rosewood Telecaster
The bash is quite simple and I was just fooling around with the guitar. Realized they belong together.
I'll be doing more to find the right shape soon but have to leave early.
Cheers,
