I've got a Wested Raiders 48" Regular and it's fine over a t-shirts/shirt when open and somewhat snug when fastened. I wear a 48" Regular in a suit jacket, but I really wanted a jacket I could wear in colder weather with a jumper/sweater and still feel comfortable. My sizes are as follows:

Height: 5' 11.5"
Chest Size: 48" Regular
Waist: 40"
Shirt Size: 18
Weight: 245 (I'm broad in the chest and wide in the belly!)

I want a jacket with some room, but I'm not looking to turn it into a tent, so any help would be appreciated as I may still have time to change the size.

I'm pretty close to the same (including the 48 Wested) and wear an XL in U.S. Wings. I only have A2s from them though.

I feel you michaeljcr. I pained over ordering mine (or was I a pain to everyone here?)
I was told to order a Large from numerous sources (including US Wings) so I'm just going to wait until it arrives and sort it out. Hopefully it will work out for the best for all of us.

Hey there Rockbottom, do you find the A2 jackets roomy, or are they more of a 'military fit'?

I'm a bit worried as I'm not going to be able to return it as I'm ordering from the UK.

Just to see what people think here, I'm looking to order a goatskin Wings jacket and I'm 135lbs, 6', SLIM build, 30" waist, should I head for a small, though, I'm scared with time it'll shrink and be too short on me.

Don't get a small!! I'm 6'1" and the large fits me fine with a baggy fit. the sleeves on the Medium might be too short though.

Not sure how anyone can compare the Wested to the USW. Wested is a fine jacket but the USW is more in line with how much they cost.

the wested and wings are not that far in price for the goat skin. I like both I have an horse A-2 from wings and I love it. In the Indy jacket what I didn't like abou the wings is the pockets, colar and sleeves were too big for what I was looking for. It was a fine jacket but I had something els in mind.

USW for the price should be more customizable....all they have are the usual S,M,L,XL....which is why a lot of people buying their jackets are having problems with fit.....(I bought a USW goat a while back and returned it due to poor fit). For the price and speed of delivery (and quality), you just can't beat a customized Wested jacket.

You may not get any taller, but you WILL get bigger. Thats just a simple
fact of life.

As we age, we gain weight.

If you want to wear the jacket for many, many years, you may want
to buy a size medium.

A size small Wings Indy jacket should have an armpit to armpit measurement
of about 21 inches, a size medium should be about 23 inches, and a size
large is about 25 inches.

If you double these numbers, you will get the total chest measurement.

For a military fit, you want 4 inches of movement room, and for a roomy
modern fit, you want about 6 inches of movement room.

If your chest measurement is 38 inches, then a size small Wings will
get you 4 inches of movement room (21 x 2 = 42. 42 - 38 = 4)

If you get a size medium Wings, you will have 8 inches of movement
room (23 x 2 = 46. 46 - 38 = 8 )

As you can see, this is why alot of people complain about the Wings
sizes, and send the jackets back. They just can't seem to get one to
fit them if they are not a perfect off the shell size S, M, L, XL.

If you fall inbetween sizes, you are really screwed. You will either have
to settle for a jacket that is a bit to snug, or one that is too baggy.

Since they don't make jackets in actual number sizes, there is no inbetween
when it comes to fit like Wested or Gibson and Barnes.

But, if you get the small, it might fit you for a few years, but once you
hit about 25 or 26 years old, and you have put on another 10 pounds,
it might be too tight for you.

YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON ON THE FORUM! MOST INFORMATIVE IN ANY REPLIES EVERY TIME I HAVE QUESTIONS
Your welcome.

I have had this happen to me on a few occations, and its not fun to buy
a jacket, only to not have it fit right by being too snug, or too baggy.

Thats why I tend to like getting a Wested over the other offerings.

You can get a jacket with a chest that will fit YOU, sleeves that are the
right length for YOU, a back length that is long enough for YOU and so
on. And it will be the type of fit YOU want, whether you want to just
wear a tee-shirt under it in nice weather, or if you want to layer a sweater
or sweatshirt with a tee-shirt under it for colder days.

Wested will accomodate just about any change in measurements YOU
need, not what a range of people need.

Wings makes nice jackets, as I own a Vintage Cow Indy, but because
I am a size 44, I had to go with a large Wings jacket, which is just a
tad to big for the fit I like.

If I went with a medium, it would be to snug.

For my example, a Wings size large gives me 6 inches of movement room
for my 44 inch chest: (25 x 2 = 50. 50 - 44 = 6)

And the size medium would only give me 2 inches of movement room
(23 x 2 = 46. 46 - 44 = 2).

So, you see that I either get a fit that is too tight, or one that is just a
wee bit to baggy for a military fit that I like.

My size 44 Wested measures 24 inches pit to pit, so that makes it 48
inches total, or 4 inches of movement room, which is a perfect military
fit, and just what I wanted.
