Who makes the best lamb?

Post by Falstaff »

8 years after I bought my pre-distressed cow Wested, it's time for me to start looking for another jacket. My current jacket will probably last another 8 years, although the lining is starting to fail in places. I'm thinking that I might go with something on the other end of the leather scale, and try lamb. I was thinking of going with goat, but when I need something that can take a lot of punishment, I'll just grab my cow. I've got an urge for something soft. Something that won't put up a fight when I want it to lie a certain way.

Wested, G&B and Magnoli are all attractive choices to me, but can anyone tell me how their lamb offerings compare to one another? Also, what's the difference between Wested's Authentic Brown Lamb and Dark Brown Lamb?

Can you post a pic of your 8 y.o. predistressed cowhide? I've just bought one and I'm curious to see how it looks after 8 years. Thanks. :D

Strones, here's the pictures I promised. Just a few days ago I treated the jacket with Pecards so it's a lot more shiney than usual--we've had nothing but rain for weeks and it needed to be done. The flash and angle at which the light hits the leather really enhances the difference colour in each panel, but in real life you'd hardly notice.

Wow... I really, really, really like the look of that jacket! And this is coming from a guy who touts the benefits of preserving the pristine look of a new jacket!

That jacket simply screams ADVENTURE to me!

You should have seen it before this years Pecard's treatment. It looked very Last Crusade.

This is the reason why I'm interested in going with a lambskin jacket now. I've already got a bulletproof one, now I want something softer and just a little more screen accurate in fit.

Any suggestions?

I don't see why TN wouldn't do that. I've been thinking about doing the same actually...

Originally I would have said G&B made a better impression on me than, say, what Wested was offering...but the Italian lambskin that Peter has been able to get his custom's made has really tilted my opinion back in Wested's direction.

I'd say it would be a dead heat between the two if I had to make a decision today. Remember, I'm referring to his custom jackets, not his off the rack jackets. I'm not sure WHERE that leather comes from.

westeds prewashed vegetable tanned lambskin.......if you can live with the reddish caramelly colour. i'd put the weight of the hide in the ranks of cowskin. definitely more robust than the novapelle and their chrome tanned lamb......kind of like lamb on steroids.

 That looks like a lamb on steroids.

I really like the lambskin Peter is getting from Wested for the customs, I got a custom lambskin about almost 2 months back and it is an awesome jacket. I say right now is a good time to get one from Wested, with the dollar and pound exchange right now. I am not sure if Peter is taking customs again since he was busy about 2 months ago. But I say Wested and that is my opinion.
