My Fed IV has arrived

Post by floyd1977 »

I received my hat yesterday and I gave it a very amateur bash and wore it to work this morning. I live in Germany and take the train and tram to work and I got a few strange looks.... I've never worn a hat like this before but I suppose I'll get used to the attention. I'll try and post some pics when I get home, maybe someone can help me with some bash tips?

I can't wait to see it as I'm torn between the Fed IV and the Christy's. The Christy's looks just like the original ROTLA hat, but doesn't seem very rugged and the Fed IV is of course a very rugged Aubra...

Akubra's reputation for durability is what sold me on the Fed IV (standard). Granted, I didn't necessarily want a hat that was 100% screen-accurate, but IMO that's what I got (no disrespect intended to owners and manufacturers of the other high-quality hats available who feel theirs is more accurate).

An added bonus for me was the fact that the Fed IV has a slightly taller crown when compared to the Christy's Adventurer. I have a big melon, and even though I used a relatively shallow center/top dent the top of the hat rests gently on the top of my head when I put it on; 3/8" of an inch can make a difference.

I'm sure everyone here feels the same way about their hats, but the Fed IV was the perfect choice for me, and I couldn't be happier with it.

floyd, of course it all depends on what bash you're after but I'd say by the looks of it you've got more of a tear drop dent in the top than a centre dent. Also the tops of your side dents are a little low. If you're going for a Raiders bash the front pinch needs to be sharp. I'm new to bashing too but I've been following advice on here and this is a hat I recently sold which I was happy with...

Fuller's Earth optional! And of course if you're going down the Raiders route you'll need to think about 'the turn'.
