The one pictured on the magazine is more appropriate for the 1950's than the Raiders' grey hat is. Your hat looks very nice, btw.

I would venture to guess it is an AB since Delk is doing them for the movie.

Mine is my old Optimo.

As for the 50's... I miss the 30's

It is published by Michael Key. I think it is available at some news-stands but Borders and BN it is hard to say- even from month to month their magazines seem to vary.

I came very close to putting a wider ribbon on the gray hats. No specs were given to me by them. I was just told, it did not have to be identical to the brown hats Marc and I made. So, I sent a totally different block shape, a very old one. I gave some thought about ribbon width, and felt that the wider ribbon was more suited to the 30's than 1957, although I may have been wrong in my appraisel of ribbon width, and matching it to the era, without using that really thin ribbon one sees. So, to be safe, I used the common width, at least for the brown hats we are familiar with.

And as most know, I was surprised they even used the gray hat I made. Bernie, at first, was wanting a darker gray, but not as dark as charcoal gray. Personally, I like this gray better, that is, the one that I sent. This gray hat was always referred to as, "Indy's travel hat". Fedora

Personally, for a 1950's movie, I might have gone with an even thinner ribbon than that, and I'd have used a grey ribbon to match the felt. I find the hat you made more attractive, but it seems a little old fashioned for the 50's.

Some high-end hats were still very conservatively styled in the mid- to late-'50s, so a justification for a wider ribbon could be made along those lines. And I see Indy as a very old-fashioned guy, anyway.

That being said, I think the narrower ribbon looks great, and can't wait to see the magazine cover up close.

MK had a distribution deal with B&N and it is supposed to be featured prominately on on their displays in the mens style section.
So it should be there.

Looked on the B & N web site and it doesn't show up there. I suppose it is in stores only. I'll have to pop into our San Luis Obispo store and see if I can find it there.

In any case, I've been enjoying my 1945 Metropolitan. A good all round hat.

That looks a lot like a Stetson Stratoliner I have, bound edge and all. The felt looks just as thin too.

The non-Indy hats were likely supplied by a wardrobe company, and probably are vintage.

From my memory AB did just the Ford hats and worked exclusively with Bernie, Fords personal costumer. From what I was told, in this very scene may be hats from Barons, giving the reason they were said to have made the hats for the film. Not Fords hats, but hats for the extras and perhaps other characters. If I remember correctly some of the extras in this scene said they were wearing hats with the Baron hats logo in them. Now, whether they were from Paramounts costume warehouse or if Baron made them for the film is unknown, at least to me. Maybe someone has more info by now.

I made a dive in the deep end and ordered another AB earlier this month. I got lucky and was able to order a grey CS hat from the same set of bodies that Steve used for Harrison.

I'm quite fond of the 2-inch ribbon myself. I think a very narrow ribbon such as on the Akubra Bushman looks good, and the occasional pleated ribbon adds something to a rather ordinary Fedora.

Certainly through the 1950's the major hat companies would "customize" a hat in a way not possible today, so that if one walked in and wanted to duplicate a well-worn older model, it was generally possible to do so.
