Anthony Delongis promoting KotCS
Anthony asked me to send his regards to all the members of Club Obi Wan and to let everyone know that he will be in New York this week for the premier of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He will be walking the red carpet tonight and possibly doing some pre show whip cracking at the premier as well.
He is also scheduled to be on Good Morning America with Dianne Sawyer, Wednesday the 21st to show case the bullwhip and training Harrison Ford for the film. The following morning Harrison Ford is scheduled to be on the show and will be borrowing one of Anthony’s bullwhips, so while he will be in the audience Harrison may be doing some whip cracking on camera.
Anthony will be giving Indygear some exclusive inside information in the next few weeks on the whips and his role as whip coach and on his experience in New York at the premier, In the mean time though here are a few new articles that I thought you might enjoy on the subject.

As well as a sneak preview photo of one of Terry Jacka's “Crystal Skull” bullwhips that Anthony used while working with Harrison Ford last year.
Courtesy of a friend who was kind enough to take some photos while up at Rancho Indalo a few weeks ago. Thanks John!

Dave, Because of the type of kangaroo leather used to make the whips, the thong and handle darkened up faster then the knots, due to oil and plaiting soap used. So when the whips where first sent brand new some of the knots on some of the whips actually appeared much lighter then the rest of the whip. We think that the prop crews darkened them up with rub on black dye so that they wouldn’t stand out as much on camera in contrast to some of the other whips they had. A lot of this will be covered in the new bullwhip main page which is going up very soon. So keep an eye out for that.

ive spoken with Anthony several times in the past, even had a very length telephone call with him.........
I have been a fan of his since his Highlander days, and thats mainly what we discused..... Destreza sword fighting, but it was a real pleasure to see that he got to train harrison.......
Anthony is one of the "good guys" and i really wish him all the success one can have!

When I was talking to Anthony a few weeks ago about coming up to the ranch, he alluded to the fact that he had an Indy-related commitment in New York this week. It's great to hear what it actually is. I'll have to be sure to setup the DVR and record it. I can't wait to get back to the ranch and hear some stories first hand.

Glad you guys enjoyed these. If someone could capture the Good Morning America clips in youtube format and post the links here that would be great.
A couple of weeks ago a French television crew went out to Rancho Indalo to do a "portrait" of Anthony for the new Indy opening. He took the opportunity to do whips, lances and swords on horseback etc to showcase his work. It turned into sort of a Mini Whip cracking gathering unfortunately being on the other side of the country I couldn’t attend but there where several extremely talented whip handlers there including some good friends, even Club Obi Wans whip cracking champion own got to show off his stuff.
The footage from the French team has just gone on youtube, and while most of it is in French there is enough English that you can get the basic idea of whats going on. Its some great footage so checks it out!

Hate to repeat myself but...okay I won't. But did I have to sit through all that? I hate morning television. Well I'll just do it again tomorrow I guess.
His flow is wonderful and very "his". It'll be awhile before I'm taking flower out of The Amazing Abbey's hands at 8'oclock in the morning! Not before my coffee anyway!

I've always been impressed with Anthony's work, but haven't actually purchased any of his video material yet. I would like to pick up whichever DVD set of his focuses more on the whip as a weapon/defensive tool, if someone can make a recommendation.
I just blogged about that French video clip. It was very very cool!

It's not a video/DVD but have you read The Filipino Fighting Whip by Tom Meadows? Anthony is a certified instructor in Latigo y Daga which is, more or less, whip and daggar. Using filipino double stick sinawali (weaving) as a foundation, there is a photo of Anthony doing matched whip work. Interesting read and some good drills. I think that's the book in which I found out about the sjambok.Mountaineer Lasher wrote:I've always been impressed with Anthony's work, but haven't actually purchased any of his video material yet. Re: Anthony Delongis promoting KotCS
What would make an individual whip able to roll smoothly yet be difficult for multiple cracks? Does it have to do with the length or the balance?FloatinJoe wrote:I cracked that whip this week It rolls really smoothly, but is really tough for multiple cracks.
Life has been pretty crazy this week. I'll try and write up my story and post it in the scrapbook section when I get a chance. Needless to say, it was awesome. More to come.

It might just be the length, I'm not sure. My standard whip is a Morgan 10-footer and I am able to do multiples. For some reason I wasn't able to get this to do it. Even Anthony had commented that it is tough to do multiples with it, but he was able to.
Honestly, I don't have an answer for you.
