Gortex Indy for rain!

Hey,

I just bought a Gortex rain jacket for my hike this summer, but I couldn't help but think how awesome it would be if someone made one out of the Indy pattern....anyone know of anyone who would do this?

I suppose I could sew one up, but I don't really have the pattern.

I like to see a military-style Indy jacket made out of heavy duty cotton canvas.....similar to the M65.

look-up bellstaff. some of their earlier stuff, around 5 years ago when they were still a british owned company, made/makes what you are looking for.

(George enters in Gore-Tex jacket -- it’s huge/all puffed out)

JERRY: That. (pointing at George)

ELAINE: (Laughing as she says it) What is that, ha?

GEORGE: What?

JERRY: When did you get that?

GEORGE: This week. My father got a deal from a friend of his. It's Gore-Tex. You know about Gore-Tex?

JERRY: You like saying Gore-Tex, don't you?

(George turns and closes the apartment door)

ELAINE: Hey, you can't even turn around in that thing.

JERRY: Look at this

(They both start hitting George’s jacket a lot)

ELAINE: Hey George, can you feel this? Can you ...

(George stands there, looking at them as they continue hitting his jacket)

GEORGE: All right, all right. KNOCK IT OFF. Come on, let's go.

Because the last thing you want to take on a backpacking trip is a heavy leather jacket. You're already carrying like 40 pounds or something on your back, but adding the weight of a soaked leather jacket....pffft, I would leave my Wested on the beach.

Not only that, but it would be super warm!

but it would be really cool to have it be an Indy jacket.

Note: It's actually made of Nylon.....not Gortex!

For hiking or trekking, the ideal jacket would be like a thin, North Face parka........an Indy jacket is really just a modified bomber jacket.....turning something like that into a hiking parka to me is just too bizarre.

I actually talked to Peter about this back at the QM in 2005. The direction I wanted to head was oilcloth. He said that even if he only made one jacket, he'd have to have all of the machines cleaned. It had something to do with how the treatment would clog the machines.

I've toyed with trying to get a Gortex one, but haven't pursued it.
