First Timer - Spec Help

Post by Hemidall »

HI All,
About to order my first Wested Raiders Jacket and before committing would just like to get everyone's advice - especially Platon and KT.
These are the measurements I'm going to send to Wested with a couple of special requests -

Height - 6 feet
Chest - 40 inches
Sleeve Length -25 ¾ inches
Back Length - 27 inches
Jacket Size (I'm not sure what I should be putting here)
Style - Raiders Jacket
Leather - Washed Goat
Lining - Cotton Silesia
Side Fastener - Anodised Black Rectangular Slider (buckle)
X Box Stitch - Yes (Although I'm not sure what this means)
Zip Type - Nickel 5 Zip Gauge
Gussets - No
Inside Pocket - No

Special Requests
In new Washed Goatskin
Shoulder Length 6 ¾ inches
Zipper extends all the way to the bottom of the jacket
Storm flap 1 1/2 inches wide and rounded top corner
Pockets as Platon spec with Scalloped pocket flap

Do these specs look OK (I know the washed goat is very new but hope I can request it - and I'm not sure about X-box stitch) - any comments or advice will be a great help - can wait to get this ordered - been on the hunt for this jacket for many a year.

Thanks

Didn't Peter say he was putting a hold on customs for a while?

Hemidall, I would suggest that you try on a suit jacket to determine your correct size there, but I'm guessing you are a 40R. I would also suggest that you go for the gussets and the inside pocket.

I don't know how many of those special requests Peter might do at the moment. I'd email him and ask before placing the order. You wouldn't want to be disappointed.

Those request seem reasonable. I've heard from Peter that clear orders using only the requests listed on the website are going through much quicker than the old custom sheets.

I would suggest you have an inside pocket, with minimal facing, and don't worry about speccing the width of the storm flap, they are all the same.

Get them to confirm or refuse any details so you know what to expect.

You don't seem to mention leather facings on the zipper, do you want them or not?

Regards,

Kt.

PS. X box stitching is a little X stitched inside the box that fixes the strap to the body of the jacket, it helps strengthen the join. I have jackets with them and some without, I've not missed it on the ones without and the straps have not become detached. Other people's MMV.

PPS. Washed goat skins for custom jackets are inbound and not expected for another week or 2. They did have about 30 CS made up in the washed goat last weekend but have not mentioned them, perhaps they were spoken for.

Thanks for the quick replies - I'm actually nearer a 40L hence the longer length - it's partly the reason for the custom order as Gemma had advised me that the OTR jacket would be too short.

On the order form Inside Pocket appears to refer to an Extra inside pocket hence my NO answer for that, the base spec includes a leather bound inside pocket.

So otherwise should my specials be

Special Requests
In new Washed Goatskin
Shoulder Length 6 ¾ inches
Zipper extends all the way to the bottom of the jacket
Pockets as Platon spec with Scalloped pocket flap

As far as facings on the zipper goes - what difference does it make as I'm thinking that should be a 'no leather facings on zipper'.

Is adding gussets advisable for a good fit? Will I miss them if I don't have them?

Once again - thanks for the help with this.

I've emailed Wested with the details of what I intend to order, to make sure that everything will be OK. I've asked for no leather facings on the zipper (hope this is right Kt.), and to check that the inside pocket is an extra pocket (one already being included in the jacket) as far as the order form goes. Hopefully all of this should be OK and I look forward to placing the final order with Wested shortly.

If the washed goat is unavailable should I go with the Novapelle or a regular authentic goat.

Any other ideas about gussets (include/exclude) as I'm thinking I won't need them.

Any other suggestions or help much appreciated.

Entirely up to you. Each hide offers it's own qualities and characteristics.

I have one with and one without. They do ease movement a bit. However in my case anyway, I really haven't found the need for the gussets all that pressing since I dont' wear the jacket while getting dragged under a truck.

I've now placed my order a Custom Wested Raiders in Authentic Brown Goatskin, I haven't gone crazy with the specs and can't wait for the jacket to arrive.
