Todd's Web Belt question
Hello,
Just a quick two par question here for everyone, I was looking at Todd's stuff and the price and the look for some of the things fit my current budget, but I was curious about two things.
1) he has Brass and Steal buckles, if I am right the steal look brass plated, so was Indy's only Brass and not steal in color? if so I will go for the brass, but I was having a tough time last night trying to find pics.
and
2) I have a 30 waist and this part always trips me up, plus belt makers are not all the same, and I know that Indy have a few extra inches hanging off of his buckle so the question is, should I go for the 30-32 in size or should I go for the 34-36?
Just curious if anyone else had sorted this out before me who might be able to help.
Thanks in advance

As for size, for web belts at least, it never hurts to go with the larger size if you are unsure. You can always cut off the excess at the end that attaches to the buckle. The buckles used in the films were steel buckles that were sanded heavily so that most of the brass color was gone.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it does, thanks to both of you. I thought the same about cutting back but didn't want to get one to small.Herr Doktor wrote:From Todd's site:Terrasolo wrote:1) he has Brass and Steal buckles, if I am right the steal look brass plated, so was Indy's only Brass and not steal in color? if so I will go for the brass, but I was having a tough time last night trying to find pics.
oops, missed that part, still the brass ones looks really nice... might have to think about this. The buckles used in the films were steel buckles that were sanded heavily so that most of the brass color was gone.

Well this might or might not help.
The Brass buckel will tarnish, but will take time as the Brass over steel will age faster, specialy if youtake some 000 steel wool to it. This is what I did to mine and it turned out ok. As far as length, go for the 32-36, you can always trim it down. Under the buckel is a clamp which you can undo and trim the web belt down, slide back in and re-clamp it. This way the other end which has a brass color tip to it doesn't have to be undone.
Hope this was of some help, I'm sure there'll be others to chime in.

Thanks for the help, I may be leaning more towards the steal now since they would be more SA, but I think they are really shinny in comparison. which won't matter if I age them myself, but I am thinking of letting them age on their own.
well, I have till I get home to make my choice

Those buckles are clear coated at the factory so they won't tarnish. To get them to tarnish faster, buff off the clear coat with a Scotch Brite pad or steel wool. Sometimes acetone removes the coating too.
Does anyone have good pictures that show the brass over steel buckle? O is it just conjecture?
