I decided which hat, it's out of two choices

It's a toss up between the Christy hat and the Federation IV hat. I just need to know what you guys think, I want something that's durable and practical for real wearing and not just SA.

Unless you prefer a TOD look, for which I feel the Christy's is perfect, I would second that recommendation as the Feds have a reputation for rugged durability.

Federation. No question.

Federation = real, rugged hat

Christies = costume

I don't think it's accurate to call the Christy's a costume hat. It is definitely a "real" hat. It's the same quality as an HJ, and as such probably will not stand up to a lot of rough treatment and harsh weather conditions, as the Fed IV will. But the Christy's works fine as a dress hat or for other light use, and has the authentic Indy look and feel-- more so than the current standard HJ, in my opinion.

Christy's really IS more of a costume hat. It can look really awesome, but it's not gonna be nearly as durable as FedIV.

I believe the 'correct' term is it's a 'dress' hat rather than a 'costume' hat. It's more for formal type wear and not specifically made for 'outdoorsman' type activities.
