EMERGENCY : Whats happening to my AB ?

Post by e.m.t. jones »

Hat was a little dusty today after some yard work. Sometimes I like it dusty and sometimes I dont. So I proceded to brush it with my hat brush, wich I have done several times over 4 years with the same hat brush and the beaver felt started to pill  The more I brushed the more it pilled, at this point the chest pain started to set in. I took a lint roller to it and it took of what I seemed to loosen up with the brush. The chest pain went away and I stopped sweating, but this has never happened before. Does anybody know whats going on ? :-k This is my only hat at this time, should I be conserned ? :( My hat needs to back to Steve for a lot of work but I have held off because the last few e-mails I sent have not been answered , I know Steve is very busy so Im also woorried about the turn around time . Do you guys think I need a hatter (Steve :notworthy: ) to fix this ?

I think your only problem is that you brushed the felt the wrong way - you're supposed to follow the nap of the felt. Other than that, should be fine. Next time you send it in for a reblock I'm sure Steve will repounce it. :junior: -M

Yep, that's what is sounds like to me as well.

You brush the crown and top of the brim counterclockwise, and under the brim clockwise to keep the felt 'tight'.

What does pill mean?

it means the same thing as what happens to a cheap sweater (or any cheap material, for that matter), you start to get these little fuzz balls showing up all over it...

little bits of material collect off the surface forming little 'pills'. happens alot with sweaters.....especially with some poly content.

i brushed one of my hats once.....didn't like the effect at all as i couldn't help brushing the ribbon at times. the ribbon looked kinda fuzzy after a while so i stay away from brushes. hats are suppose to get dusty.....i consider it distressing

don't take a lint roller to your hat. I would say the same thing, your brushed it the wrong way.
