Do a search on "close enough" boots. You will find years worth of reading.

Be sure to check you size before you buy your boots. You need to know both your length and width. If you don't know both measurements, get your self to an Aldens dealer, or any other fine shoe store that can measure your feet. that's just the beginning, because not every shoe and boot maker uses the same last (the foot form they make the shoes on) for the same size.

This Amazon listing above is very limited in size availability. Aldens is an excellent quality boot. If you don't need them in a hurry, I recommend saving up for a pair. Schmidty's (a member here) works in a shoe store and has a great price on the Alden 405 Indy boot.

I recommend either the Rockport Farnums or Orvis chukkas......much cheaper than Aldens and much more functional (for hiking, in snow, etc)....and they both look similar to the Aldens.
