Jacket Altering ? Need opinions !!!

Post by mooniteman »

Basically

- should I get my Wested jacket's body taken in?

It's a tad too long for me and I want more of a Raiders look - but I'm worried about

A) Cost

and

B) if it will affect the overall proportions and look of my Jacket?

And how much should I get it taken in - I was thinking two Inches.

What say you ?

Here's some pics:

(yes I know that's Karen Allen)

Thanks !

I don't think you should attempt it. There seems to be a lot of work to do to achieve the result you are thinking of.

If you get the jacket shortened you'd have to get the pockets and straps taken off and moved upwards and this is not possible as the pockets are cut into the jacket, not to mention all the holes left where the stitching was.

Unfortunately, you've fallen victim to the fact that the Roltaa has been made longer for the taller fans.

i think you need a jacket at least 3" shorter from what i can tell by 2D photos. your best bet is to save on the alteration costs (which will be significant) and put that towards a new jacket with the right measurements........or you can just enjoy the jacket you have. i think the distressing looks great and you pull off the look quite nicely in the second photo.

Or try placing it up for sale here on Cairo Bazaar: it's a great jacket and someone will have it I'm sure.

Not near Portugal by any chance...

I really don't think I can sell it - but there's no way to maybe take it in at the shoulder seam and raise it up that way ?

I will buy it from you if Marion comes with it

It does look big, but it does not look bad either. Get another, most of us here have more than one in the closet. Nice gear too.

You could also sell it on Ebay with that Karen Allen photo to make it ultra-exclusive and make a good profit....and use it to buy the ultra-coveted Nowak CS jacket!.........I'm thinking that you should have had Karen Allen or Harrison Ford sign your jacket.....now that would have made it $$$

Hmm.

I'm not sure I like that altered picture of Karen Allen.

mooniteman, I would keep the jacket without changing anything.

IMO it's a bit too long, but I think everything you wear on that picture is a bit oversized and somehow it suits you very well.

It gives you a nice personal Indy style look.

I think it looks amazing, and you should definitely not get it altered. Okay, so maybe it's length isn't screen accurate to Raiders, but the length looks really good. Personally, I prefer a slightly longer jacket to the usual shortness of the Raiders jackets. To me, something about a longer jacket actually helps create that 'battered' look Indy has, since I tend to imagine he wouldn't have been worried about his jacket fitting perfectly.

I think it looks great, and you definitely shouldn't sell it. Unless, of course, it's to me, and at some point in time when I can afford it.

Alright so perhaps I'll keep it - but I really wouldn't mind getting it taken in a wee bit - I'm obsessed with leather jackets they always have to look perfect - I'll just get buff and it'll look tighter on me MWUHAHAHA!

yeah right!
