New Braumfels Leather Co.
I just got back from the New Braumfels Leather Co. that Pyroxene mentioned in a previous thread. They have a pretty good selection of whips to choose from. I bought a leather covered 12 ft. swivel handle for $63 bucks. The woman at the front desk was very sweet and helpful. She told me that she could also make me a whip holder although they didn't have any in stock. They could make them in about a day or so for about $15. Really nice place. I will post pics when I get back in town.

Question about the fall of my whip?
I do have a question about my new whip? The fall is rather wide on my whip. Would this affect my whipcracking. I may be using the wrong terminology but the fall is what is connected to the popper? Correct? Would my fall need to be trimmed down to a smaller width?

I believe the wide fall is pretty charactaristic of American latigo bullwhips. I'd get more opinions from some of the more expeirenced whip handlers around here first though!

Additionally, Mark Allen and Alex Green suggested trimming down the fall of a whip like that. And, I would attach a less "waxy" popper to the end.

PS - Too bad I missed you, Blackthorne. I would have like to meet another gearhead and trade stories. Maybe next time.

I have Pyro to thank for getting me my first ever whip from Braumfels. Admittedly when I had the chance to crack it for the first time along with the likes of a DM and JS I was a little disappointed, but I am gradually begining to become competant at whip cracking I am finding it less difficult to user the Braumfels version, it just needs a little more muscle to get it to crack. So it is actually a rather good whip for its price and i am thinking of trimming the fall down too.
However, beside my JS which I was recently fortunate enough to aquire I am afraid it will always be my stunt whip
Many thanks Pyro!

Before you order, I have to say this.
There have been times in the past when new vendors were alienated from onslaught of calls from IndyGear fans. Please exercise tact when dealing with any new vendor. Especially in this case as they are my "neighbors".
Here is a quote from Indiana John from the old COW for those of you who are new and perhaps missed this topic.:
Quote:
It's not necessary to give out information when buying a product...you don't owe an explanation...it's a business transaction. Of course, it's not a means to be rude either...so if someone asks, then be brief and very generic--don't associate the purchase with Indiana Jones. If I heard the words "Indiana Jones" as a vendor, dollar signs would light-up for me too! So don't blurt out stuff...
In general regarding any vendors, think before you speak. The best way for this hobby to be ruined...is for someone to say something stupid, and blow it for the lot of us. It only takes one...

According to Paul @ NB Leather, they buy them from a third party. More than likely, they buy from the same or a similar vendor.rick5150 wrote:Hey, those pictures look exactly like the Texas Bullwhips "Indiana Jones Whip on Steroids" made from "Killer Bulls" that I got on eBay. Any chance they are affiliated somehow?

I have been out practising a lot and am really getting into whip cracking - its so addictive and with a JS pure poetry in motion. I have pretty much perfected (well to my satisfaction) the overhead crack and am improving everytime on the forward crack, and today managed the forward throw. I just cant get the side arm crack at all and today disaster - the popper came off the end and I have no other ones! Where do I turn now?
Ken
PS - Requested from WSP one made by JS - had to wait 4 weeks.

Ken,
Looks like now is the time to learn to make your own poppers.
Poly baling twine, or poly packing twine are very good materials.
Take a piece of twine approx 20" long. If it is baler twine, split the number of strands in half. Just start at one end and unravel the twine.
Next do it like the old timers, and hold one end in your teeth. Twist the twine from the other end. I like to twist it against the original lay of the twine. It seems too hold together better. Twist it tight, then hold the twisted end, place your finger in the middle of the strand, and fold the free end back towards your mouth.
Then let the middle loose, and it should twist the two strands together. Tie off the bottom end about 3 inches back with a blood knot, pull it tight and you have a new cracker.
Hope that helps.
Jerry R
ps. The other way to twist the twine is to secure one end in a vice, and tie the other end to a loop held in the chuck of a drill. Then slowly twist the twine.
