Whip Cracking in Corpus

Post by jerryrwm »

The newly formed Whip Enthusiasts of South Texas (W.E.S.T.) will be having the first organized practice and would like to invite whipcrackers, or those that want to watch, to come out and enjoy an afternoon of cracking and socializing.

The date: 23 August, 2003
Time: 2:00 pm until we get tired or everyone else goes home.
Where: Bill Witt Park off of Yorktown Blvd in Corpus Christi, TX.
email me for a map to the park.
Bring your lawn chairs, drinks, and snacks.

We have a great park director who says as long as we act like responsible citizens there is no proplem cracking whips in the city parks.

If you have questions please email.

I'll be driving down to Corpus Christi from Baytown (25 miles east of Houston) which I think is about a 3 or 4 hour drive.

I am looking forward to the road trip and helping to kick off a new whipcracking group!

I;ll have my new Fedora (Akubra Federation) with me and will be looking for other Indy adventurers. Otherwise stay at home if you're not adventurous! 8)

Awesome! It's great seeing that the WE group is growing in Texas. Send some cracks up our way here in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Driving directions in Corpus

Post by jerryrwm »

The Sea Ranch is still open and down on Ocean Dr. It is an easy drive over to Airline Rd, head south to Yorktown Blvd and then just .5 mi to Bill Witt Park

Also there is a Studio Plus on Staples that is 1.3 miles from S.P.I.D. and about 3 miles to Bill Witt.

For those coming from out of town from the north this will get you to the park.

Coming in on IH-37 take the "NAS CORPUS/CCAD South Padre Island" exit
to the right. Follow Padre Island Drive and take the "Staples" exit and turn right at the light. You will be headed south then. Follow Staples for 3.0 miles to Yorktown Blvd. Take a left and go 1.4 miles to the entrance to Bill Witt Park on the right. There are a number of soccer fields along Yorktown. We will be back in about .3 mi from the entrance and on the right.

For those coming in across the Harbor Bridge take IH-37 north to "Crosstown Expressway" and when you get to S.P.I.D. follow the above directions.

Any questions or problems, call me at 361.765.0073

See ya on the 23rd.
