Wested novapelle vs. goat
I like the look of the novapelle Peter uses, but how does it compare with, say, goat in terms of thickness, weight, stiffness, and durability?
Also, has it been finally established whether Wested's novapelle is horse or cow? Posts here say cow, the Wested website says horse...
Thanks.

the CS wested is a different jacket then the LC jacket.
it has lower side straps.different pockets and flaps double stitched shoulders.

Right, thanks Holt. I was only wondering because the website says it's a slightly modified LC jacket. Also, there isn't anywhere on the ordering form where one can specify that it should be a CS model - I suppose one should write a comment, or call them.Indiana Holt wrote:the CS wested is a different jacket then the LC jacket.

But what about my first question - weight, thickness, stiffness, and durability of novapelle?

The current goat has been chosen to be very close to lamb in drape. It is significantly thinner than the previous well loved "tough as nails goatskin".Jens_Hoppe wrote:

As such it is still much stronger than the lamb but feels quite similar.
What does this mean when comparing it to the novapelle? NP is a very soft cowhide, it's relatively thick and medium heavy. Where the lambskin and new goat feels lightweight the NP feels like it's got some weight. But, a biker leather it is not.
It's a bit heavier than the goat, and it's got the kind of surface that you don't mind chucking it around because it's designed to pick up marks. It's not at all stiff.
I suspect that the NP is slightly less hardwearing than the goat, but not by far.
But drop them a line and ask for a little swatch of each to compare yourself.

Thanks Kt!
I have a Wested goat that's a few years old. I believe this must be the old kind of goat - it's quite a heavy and thick jacket - but I am not sure.
Anyway, sounds like I will probably have to order a new CS jacket soon - if only Wested would answer the emails with questions I sent them, grrrr...

I called Wested today and ordered a novapelle CS jacket. Screen accuracy isn't much of a priority, so I asked for an extra inch in length, something I have always liked in my TOD jacket.
Remembering one of the comments above, I asked whether the CS jacket is normally Raiders/LC length or longer, TOD-style. The former, was the answer.
Now the waiting begins.
