Sizing advice for Fed IV?
So, what seems to be the consensus from all you who have received the new Fereration IV regarding sizing? Order your regular size, or a half size larger as Ron recommends?

I asked pretty much the same thing yesterday in the Fed IV picture thread.. some opinions there.
But yeah, if I stretch my measuring tape pretty tight and measure it in a smaller (what's the word for line around your head? circumfrence?) I can manage a 58.. but a comfortable tape measure around the widest part yields between 59-60. So I think I should get a 60 right?

Just be sure that the widest part doesn't come too close to your ears which would leave no room for the brim. Check yourself in the mirror as you measure. Also, the lower the hat fits, the closer the top of your head comes to the top of the hat. You don't want to limit the amount of top crease you can put in the hat.

I just measured my head 3 times, but this time in front of a mirror. No wonder my hats are always a bit too big, I have the tape measure just above my ears, but in front of a mirror I raised it up a bit where the hat should sit and I go from 22 1/4" to 22". Big difference, so I'm ordering my Akubra Fed in a 56.
Thanks for all the sizing help I got it really worked...

my advice, for what it's worth, is to say on the order form how you measured your head and any thoughts or worries you have on fitting. That's what I did, and Ron at Hats Direct came straight back to me asking me to use a dress maker's tape measure and to send him a tight measurement and a comfortable but not loose measurement.
From the measures I sent him, Ron decided to send me a hat size down from the one I had ordered, and it fits fine. Give Ron the right information and he will pick the right size for you (he will know, for example whether a particular hat is a generous 60 of a tight 60, if you know what I mean...)

My exact head size is 22" too and I got a 57. It fits perfectly with a little piece of foam in the back and will fit perfectly without it when the sweatband shrinks a bit. Just a thought.gabrielle wrote:I just measured my head 3 times, but this time in front of a mirror. I measured my head at 55.5 centimeters. According to the sizing chart for the Fed IV it recommended I order a 56. I went ahead an ordered the size 55. The 55 fits very loose at this time. If I use all of the tape that comes with the hat it fits somewhat snug the way I like it. I am sure the hat will shrink with 'wear' allowing me to remove some of the tape.
