G&B or Magnoli?
O.k I am know infected with Idianicus Indiciso Jacketitus. Thanks guys...
I have been debating and debating and debating and debating.. you get the idea.
Wich one? G&B or a Magnoli? A Magnoli is not a great deal more money, but then I think Get a Wested HH and and a hat too. But I am kind of drawn to USW VIP, but then I think no a MAgnoli is like the one. But wil it hold up?
Help, need input.

Well, I have a modified cowhide version of Magnoli's Vinatge Adventure Jacket (the one that's similar to the Indy Jacket). It's very well put together, and even a custom Wested isn't as custom as that baby! I'm dieing to save up the money for Magnoli lambskin. If concerns about quality are all that's holding you back with a Magnoli, put your fears to rest. You will love it!

Hi Whip, am in a similar boat, as I am looking for a jacket (not necessarily an Indy-style) but the way I have narrowed things down a bit is to first focus on specifics, like budget, then hide, weight of jacket (this applies to when during the year you want to wear it - Spring/Fall, Winter-weight), lining options, desired color and level of distressing. I get a little crazy perhaps, but I spreadsheet the choices in Excel...
Assuming you can afford everything up to TN, then its a question of what is the hide you want (i.e, lamb, goat, etc.), then decide on the others on my list. When you are faced with excellent quality from several different sources, you can either decide on what are the most important variables, or order jackets from all 5 major vendors, which is of course, unfeasible.
Meanwhile, I sit on the fence between ordering a G&B lamb, a US Wings lamb or VIP cowhide, and another similar-to-Indy-but-not-really-an Indy jacket...

Man, THAT'S a REALLY tough call!!!
The quality and craftsmanship from the Magnoli shop is fantastic. I have two items he made for me, and they're both top drawer, and VERY well made for hard use.
G&B jackets are legendary in their toughness and craftsmanship.
THIS is one question I wish you well in determining an answer. It's one I'd hate to have to make.
Regards! Michaelson

.....see how easy that was
now onto the topic:
if you go magnoli's route, the extas are justified in the fact that EVERY LITTLE THING is customizable. G&B is an OTR jacket imo....i've asked for some small tweaks on their jacket and they couldn't do it.
good luck in your choice.

Have you seen a Magnoli? I mean how well are they put together compared to a G&B? No disrespect to MAgnoli, it's just that I have never seen either; it's also that everyone is always raving about the toughness of G&B but no one realy mentions Magnoli, his SA-ness, yes but toughness no.Michaelson wrote:Man, THAT'S a REALLY tough call!!!

i have an adventure shearling jacket that is very well constructed and i would rate it quite high on the toughness scale. i was very impressed with the jacket when it came.
i'm also expecting an'i am legend' jacket in washed lamb. i have seen magnoli's projects on another forum.......his wolverine jackets, escape from new york jacket, war of the worlds jacket.....etc....all get stellar reviews from both the owner and the stitch nazi's over there. i would hazard a guess that his construction is comperable to the g&b....but i wish a g&b/magnoli owner can post a true opinion.....cheers, G

Uh, yes. I OWN a custom Magnoli jacket, and a custom made vest besides. I wouldn't have posted an opinion otherwise. I had a hand in the creation of the G&B too, and owned one of the first production models that ever came off the line.....so yes, THAT'S why I said I'd hate to have to make this decision.I guess you missed that line in my post you quoted where I said I OWNED two of his items, right?whipcracker wrote:Have you seen a Magnoli? I never post an opinion on any gear item that I haven't either personally held and studied or personally owned. I never have in all these years I've been on a website. Otherwise it's just second hand information based on nothing but restating someone ELSE'S opinion.
SO, I will RESTATE, this is a decision I'd hate to have make myself, knowing what I know about the two items in question.

The do tend to run on the bigger side versus other vendors.Does anyone know it the G&B sizes run large? I think I'm a 44 regular. If I decide to go with a G&B over a Magnoli, should I go a size smaller--and that's a big if.
Its probably because they make them to fit a more modern persons
body style.
But, the best thing for you to do is call them up, and ask them. Thats
the best way to get the proper fit.

Sorry Michaelson, I did miss that line! I shoud have read closer. I think maybe I'll just save for a Magnoli, even it's $100 more with I mods I want to do, like a button-in heavier wool lining for northern Utah winters, -40 is pretty cold for an AZ boy (I just love 100 degrees). I think it is well worth it.
From what I understand and from my personal experience they do not run large. Mine is the same as my suit size. Just ask for T or tall if you are over 6 feet tall.FLATHEAD wrote:The do tend to run on the bigger side versus other vendors.Does anyone know it the G&B sizes run large? I think I'm a 44 regular. I know the three Expedition jackets I have had in my hands all were aboutFrom what I understand and from my personal experience they do not run large.
two inches bigger in the chest than the ones from Wested when comparing
like sizes.
They seemed to run about 5 to 6 inches of movement room in them
versus the standard military cut of 4 inches of movement room.
This is also why alot of guys on the VJF seem to like to go down a size when
they order their jackets, so it fits more true to a military fit.
But, calling them and asking is always the best bet for the best fit.
