Perhaps the first time in a computer game...?
In the WW2 game Day of Defeat, a total modification of the game Half Life, British troops have the Webley as their sidearm.
Cool, huh?
Great game too!

Well.. Have you played Half Life? This is a convertion of it, almost unrecognizable although the graphic "feel" to it is sort of the same.Renderking Fisk wrote:Why bother.... I would rather shoot a real gun and use photocopies of Saddam and his girl His-Mamma Been-Layen for a target.
Is this a good game?
The game is great I think! You play it on-line on either the Allies or Axis team on different maps based on actual happenings from WW2. On the map Overlord you storm the beaches of Normandie on D-day for instance. For the most part your team tries to reach flags or checkpoints to make them show your colour while the other team does the same thing towards your lines. If you "have" all 5 checkpoints at the sime time, your team wins. Other missions features snatching secret plans and getting them back to your base, blowing up tanks and tons of other creative stuff. In the mod "Counter Strike" you have to wait until all players are killed or for the round to end to play again if you are out. In Day of Defeat you have to wait a maximum of like 10 seconds until "reinforcements" arrive where you can carry on trying to finish your teams mission. The game has great sound with guns firing in the background and people screaming and the Axis even speak German. The guns are all ones that were used in WW2 and you have to reload and save your ammo in order to progress. There is a retail version including Half Life but you can also download it for free if you already have Half Life. (Half Life alone is like $14 now since the game is pretty old, still with good enough graphics I think.)
To sum it all up: Go get it!
Oh, be sure to pad your mouse (or furniture) when firing the Webley if playing indoors... KABOOM! Pretty good recoil!
(Reminds me about playing Nintendo for the first time... Did anyone actually manage to control Mario by shaking their gamepad from side to side?)
Cheers!

I just noticed something new about Indy's Webley while watching the Mediterranean Beach and tank chase scenes in Last Crusade. Unlike my Webley, which has a flat-bladed front sight, the sight on Indy's gun appears to be one of the taller, rounded sights. Now, I'm not terribly concerned about this, but just for the sake of argument, is it even possible to buy, or even find, an original rounded Webley sight?
