it's underway....he's got the 2nd goat washed now but the 3rd one keeps getting away cuz of all the soap.......

sorry....i'm stupid....i couldn't resist.....

i have seen a sample of the washed goat and it does look really good. the proof is when a jacket is made from it though. i'm hoping that it will keep all of its "dark" characteristics without the predistressed look of the novapelle (which turns out very nice when you pecard it btw).

can't wait to see

It's very light almost feels like lamb. Very supple. Almost completely matt, looks a bit like waxed cotton, will make a super Raiders jacket.

KT - That looks just the ticket for my next trip to Africa - needs to be light, supple and strong. (Believe it or not some of the places I've been there do get cold at night). How long do you think until this option is available in the Raiders style?

I will be coming to England in August and will definitely be dropping by Wested's to meet Peter if available and try on some jackets to find something suited to my 5' 8" +/- frame. Perhaps we could meet up for a beer beforehand?

Africa.

Fraid not, no one seems to be able to take clear pics with my camera except for me!!

It's really frustrating, hold the darn thing steady and wait for it to take the darn pic how hard can it be!

Does the washed goat come in dark brown? OTR or custom?

It's just one colour, seem like a seal brown. OTR CS available now, custom when they get some more skins in (don't know when).

Here's one more pic courtesy of IndianaGeo.

That looks really nice. I'd love to see some closer pics, see how distressed the leather looks.

From these pics, however, I think I might have found my next jacket purchase.

What's the real difference (or benefit) between the washed goat and regular goat again? Does the "wash" make the goat skin any less durable?

Interesting. I thought it would look more pre-distressed (colour-wise) than it does. Maybe it's the pictures though.

What's the grain like? It looks quite smooth for goat. I really like the finish on it, I have to say :)

Wested is still taking custom orders in the sense of creating a jacket based on your measurements and the options listed on its website. That's my understanding of a custom jacket anyway, and they never stopped doing that.

My understanding of the retreat from uber-customization is that Peter is merely holding off on accepting precise measurements on things like the pockets, heights of side straps, height of yoke etc., and may never go back to them.

I had only 1500 ft of skin which I gave to my outdoor unit to make CS style jackets. Unfortunately they cut it all up bar a few smaller skin too small for raiders backs.
So I have more skin in work to make custom jackets with comiing next week. I will also make some OTR raiders with it.
I have a similar quantity of washed lamb which I am making some OTR raiders with. Confusing I know but I bought the skin off the shelf as I liked its heavier weight although in certain light it has an olive tinge.

Ahh, thanks Peter! An olive tinge? Well, I'll just have to see for myself. Thanks again, Peter.
