manu7, if you use the search function, you'll find a couple of very recent threads about the Adventurer.

In my opinion, it does not make for the best Indy hat. I have never owned one, but from the photos I've seen, I don't think it makes a proper Indy fedora. If you want an Akubra, I'd go with the Federation. Its less expensive too, if finances are of import.

I like mine, it does seems to run a little big. The coloring is not by any stretch SA, but the Akubra's are renowed for their durability. It's easy enough to bash by hand, thats no problem at all. Plenty of pics in several threads here to check out.

That being said, now that Ive got my HJ, the Akubra is going to be reserved for harsh weather days. It may drop even lower in the rotation once get my AB (I better order that pdq...)

I have owned both the Adventurer and the Fed IV, and I would say now that the Fed IV is out, get one of those. You'll be happier in the long run. Both hats are very nice but the Fed is the better Indy hat. Both hats come open crown, not bashed. Both hats are tough as nails and can handle any adventure.

I second that. The price increases very soon. As a newbie, I don't know how much but have seen that Steve (and Marc) have both spoken of increases to "slow traffic", as it were! (Can't wait on mine - oh. I guess I can! Come to think of it!) :rolling:

If I had seen the Fed IV before I had purchased my Adventurer, that would have been the choice for me. As it is I got both my boys one each and they live in them. :D

Now I need to convince my other half that I need a dressier hat (read Fed IV Deluxe) and continue to use my AkAd as my working fedora.

Cheers

I'm with Jones Boy. When I got my Adventurer, I knew nothing about the wealth of knowledge and information available in these forums. I would have more than probably gone with the Federation Deluxe instead of the Adventurer, just because of screen accuracy concerns.

However, one thing I can say about the Adventurer: it is tough as nails. I've worn mine for everything from hunting to horseback riding, to working outside, and it has stood up to rain, cold, sweat, and a lot of dust and dirt. Of course I am sure this goes for Akubras in general, they are tough hats.
