need help on waist measuring
Hi,
just a quick question
when I measure my waist should it be done on my naval? under? or over?
when I have found out my waist size and given them to the jacket maker how many inches will be added on the jacket waist area for room movement?
any help will be very appreciated

From Magnoli's measurement form ,it's the skinniest part of your torso, directly under your rib cage. For example, I have a 32 inch waist about 3 inches above the navel and a 35 inch measurement at the stomach (navel). The perfect fit of the Magnoli shirt and location of the skinniest part verifies that.

You don't want any measurement to be too tight. Not sloppy or baggy, the tape measure should be slightly loose, but together. When measuring for the belly, measure your fullest area, whether that's at your navel or below it. The navel works most of the time, but you should get someone to measure you, if you can.

Hi Holt!
The best thing to do that will also facilitate even more the work of the jacket maker is to give him 2 measurements.
a) Waist
b) Hips
In this way the comfusion of the meaning of the waist will be reduced. Give to the maker the real, not loosely taken, measurements and he will calculate how much slack is needed for your jacket.

I always try to avoid such conversations but Administrator's comments should be taken highly in consideration especially when Jonny whip crack had many more requirements for his jacket than Holt in his mind previously.

I would advise everyone thinking before acting even if his/her intentions are good.

When we took "health science" as part of a more major class it was said that when measuring the waist line for health charts you take the measurement around the area inbetween the navel and the crista iliaca (top ridge part of pelvis). I'd say that's about 1.5" below your belly button. That's the scientific way of measuring then, I guess.
I don't know how medically trained your local tailor is, but there you go.
This is another silly post of mine.

Swindiana
