Australian Plaiters and Whipmaker's Association

Post by Major Mike »

Does anyone have current contact information on the Australian Plaiters and Whipmaker's Association? Their website says it was last updated in January 2000, and I've emailed the address given, but have not received any response. Are they still active?

Hi Mike,

They're still active, but they can be slow in responding to email. Here is the link to their site that I have:

Thanks, Jim. I emailed them about 6 months ago and got no response. Just sent them another one. I'd like some kind of acknowledgement before I send them money.

Are you anywhere near the I-80 corridor? I'm going to be traveling to NJ in September?

Where in NJ are you going to be? I'm about 5 miles from the eastern end of I-80, but I-80 covers a big stretch out here. Send me a PM and let me know where you'll be and the dates. Maybe we could meet up at some point.

Yes, I am a member too. Ron Edwards can be a bit slow responding to email. You can optionally send him a letter at the following address:
Ron Edward
c/o AP&WA
12 Fairyland Rd, Kuranda, Qld. 4872, Australia

Or you can talk to Ron via one of those cheap phone cards at:
+61 07 40937474. He reminds me a lot of David Morgan in character.

I would say the membership is worth it alone with the newsletter that comes out. I bought all 6 bound volumes of the newsletters. Really interesting stuff in there.

Thanks, Sergei. I'll give him a call. I'm looking forward to the newsletters.

Got in touch with Ron and got signed up. The phone number you gave was one digit off. You don't dial the first zero when you do the country code. It should read: 61 7 40937474.

I ordered the first two volumes of back issues. Can't wait to get them.

The yearly membership dues are $36 Australian. The bound volumes of back issues of the newsletter are $33 AU each, so roughly $25 American for the membership and $20 American for each volume. I'm not really sure of the exchange rate now.

If you call between 7 PM and 3 AM East Coast time, you'll get Ron between 9 AM and 5 PM Queensland time.
