I've always wanted to get one, but never have. Do any of you have snake whips, and if so, let's hear all about them and see some pics!

Hi,

for me snakewhips are "wall" whips ;) At least when they are longer then 5 ft. When less they are good to hide it somewere, to keep whip in pocket or something like that. But when longer.... you can't make fast routines, at ther are not easy to crack.

I attach photo of 3 ft snake whip, with lead loading and steel foundation under turks head. It is good for hide it in pocket when it's dark in the backalley, and you afraid about yourself, or your girl ;)

hope you like it.

Here's a 4 foot (I think) snake whip that I made a while ago.

Image

That whip is shot loaded and my 3 year old daughter called it her "little zebra" whip.

That is what has always stopped me from buying one. The kind of work I want to do calls for a longer, stiff handled whip. Even so, I'll have to try one someday. The idea of having a whip I can roll up and tuck into a cargo pocket appeals to me.

Great looking whips! Thanks for posting them. I dug around in the archives and saw a really nice one by giovaniceleste with a snakes head hitch. Again, thanks every one, and if there are more out there, I'd love to see them.

In my opinion, Vic Tella makes a truly outstanding snake whip. But my favorite has to be my 10' DM black snake circa the early 1990s. Also, DM's pocket snake is pretty "cool."

Pocket snake that doubles as a life preserver/blackjack.
4 ft 12 plait. I am sending this one over to the evilbay later today.

Thanks Cracker...It was a fun project. Essentially a product of left overs from other whips. :)

So what's hiding under that Turk's Head? I'm setting one up with a big solid piece of brass bar stock.

1/4 lb lead fishing weight.
edit: The lead has been replaced with a steel nut for the auction, so as to avoid any imperial entanglemens or legal issues.
But if anyone wants a novelty/paperweight pocket snake send me a pm.

I don't think I have a pic of the whip itself handy, and the Turk's head knot has come off so a new picture won't do it justice.

Though, here's a few shots of it in use.

I must have a 'product shot' of it somewhere.

I don't know how to make 'em. I just crack 'em.

It still works fine without the knot, just doesn't look as pretty as it did.

That second shot is my fiancee cracking the snakewhip, which is hers now. I just thought it'd be a cool shot taken from inside a big rock.

I did manage to find a picture of that snakewhip on my work computer!

It's a blue 6' job we call "The Viper". Made for me by "Lash" Mark Dittmer.

I could probably have Lash put the knot back on.

A few nylon ones.....

Horses for courses I think, but I reach for my 6 foot snake long before I reach for a Bullwhip...if you have a snake whip and think it's a wall hanger only then I'd suggest you have one thats not made very well....just my 2p's worth of course..
