My Limited Edition US Wings has arrived!!! (first jacket)

Post by nicetrylaoche »

Here is my awaited first Indy jacket, which is a medium Limited Edition US Wings...I absolutely love everything about it, but I just wanted some opinions as far as sizing is concerned...Does it look too big in the shoulders/arms? By the way, US Wings was an absolute PLEASURE to work with and Sgt. Hack is just a great guy. And oh yeah...they make a pretty fine little jacket too.

The leather is soooo soft and comfy...Tell me what you think...

Nice jacket.

The sleeves look a bit too long IMO.

Perhaps you can (let a tailor) shorten them a bit?

Congratulations! Looks great to me. Maybe an inch or two long in the sleeve, but easily fixed with tailoring or hot water treatment if you plan on any distressing.

looks great.

the only thing I notice everytime I see a CS wings posted is that the jacket always looks a size bigger then what the tag says.
a small looks like a medium.a medium looks like a large.so on and so on.

hmmm :-k

congratulations!!

Awesome jacket. Looks just like novapelle. I'd lose the leather zipper pull, though. Otherwise, it's a winner!!! :D

Thanks fellas...I also ordered a small that's on the way just because this jacket is important to me and I want the best fit possible...If the small doesn't work out, then I'll just get it tailored...Does anyone have the measurements for the US Wings Medium vs. Small sizes??? I couldn't find them on the site...

He body on that is good, it falls of the shoulder like Fords CS does too.

See how the other one fits and see if it feels better to you.

On this one I would get the sleeves narrowed and tapered a bit and also shortened. You could get a leg in one of those right now!

Compared to the real thing, you're SA for the new film. Other than that, it's your call.

Looks great to me!

Listen to Michaelson. I had the same questions and he posted the same pictures for me. THE CS jacket fits differently than the others. After looking closely I see that the shoulder seam falls the same on me as on Harrison and that's good enough for me!

Thanks guys...I'm starting to LOVE this jacket...it truly is a scary jacket...i mean I've had it for 1 day, and it seems to already be forming itself to me...and Michaelson, you're definitely right about Ford's jacket in KOTCS...I guess I was just comparing it to Raiders in my mind...Good call, as always

but it's not a CS cut right?it's just the hide
USW uses there own standard patterns wich comes of an TOD jacket.

so the fit should be somewhat like a TOD jacket and not a CS fit.

correct me if I am wrong

Regardless of what US Wings says, I suspect that have modified the cut to be closer to the new jacket. Collar, sleeves (they seem to taper much more at the cuff than usual)… pockets look the same as usual though.

Regardless of what US Wings says, I suspect that have modified the cut to be closer to the new jacket.
The jacket is the same cut, pattern, and everything else as their standard
Adventurer jacket. The only difference is the leather. Other than that,
they are the same form, fit and pattern as all the rest of their offerings.

Look at the Wings site, and see for yourself:
Note: This jacket is based on US Wings' standard Adventurer jacket pattern; it has not been licensed or authorized by Lucasfilm Ltd. US Wings is not affiliated with LucasFilm Ltd.
And:
This authentic Indy-style jacket is similar to our standard Vintage Cowhide Indy-style Adventurer jacket, but what sets it apart is the leather:
As Holt pointed out, these jackets are mostly based on the TOD style, and have
been for many years, and as such, the fit should be similar to that movie, NOT
the new CS one, despite what other people may post, or pictures they
show in their replies.

All the jackets in all 4 movies are similar in style, but each movie jacket
has its own seperate little details that make it different from the others.
Thats what makes it a great jacket. Its instantly recognizable no matter
what movie it comes from.

All the Wings jackets are the same TOD style whether they are made
from goatskin, lambskin, cowhide or the limited edition leather.

So, to compare the fit of your jacket to the new movie is souly up to the
individual to do so. But you are NOT getting a SA CS movie jacket. You
are only getting SA leather.

In the end, its YOU the buyer who has to make up your mind as to how
YOU like the jackets fit, and whether or not YOU think its too big, to small,
or just right for YOU.

If you like how the jacket fits you, then you will wear it, and enjoy it.
And thats all that really matters in the end.

I will say that you do need to have the sleeves shortened by at least 1.5 inches, perhaps
more. Again, you have to make that choice. Me, I would hate having my
sleeves that long, as it makes people look like little kids putting on their
dads coat, and wearing it around the house.

As to the actual fit, if you live in a place thats mostly warm, and you do
not wear many layers under the jacket, I think the size small you have
on order will fit you better.

If you live where its mostly cooler, and you do like to wear layers under
your jackets, then the medium is fine, and the layers will take up alot of
the bulk the jacket has now. It will also be better for you as you get older,
and fatter, as most people do as they age, as you will be able to wear it
for more years than if you get a jacket that is "just right", right now.

Or, if your inclined, keep both, and enjoy both as much as you can,
no matter what type of weather it is!! Thats always an option...

I agree, it all depends on what you are looking for. I generally prefer a tad big compared to small. If your down south, then it probably doesn't get too cold, so you won't be wearing a sweater underneath. If you live in New England, like I do, then you would probably want it on the bigger side so you could layer clothing underneath the coat. Now, I had a lambskin A-2 a while back that I could swear got smaller on me as time went on, and no, it had nothing to do with me gaining or losing weight....at least I don't think, but I do think leather might shrink a little over time. The coat looks good though. Just make sure if you have someone shorten the sleeves that they know what they are doing because I would think it is not reversible.

All points taken...I definitely hope the small has sleeves that will fit me better...I do live in the South, so we have moderately cold temps in fall and winter, but this jacket (without layers) will be perfect...

Once again, does anyone have a sizing comparison of a US Wings Med. vs. Small??? I'm especially interested if the circumference/area of the sleeves is smaller...It seems they are currently about 3.5 inches across

You have to flatten out the wrist, and measure it across when its flat
to get a proper measurement.

Yeah, the arm length on the US Wings is always disproportionately long, the customer service even mentioned to me that that they now make them so individuals can have them tailored to their specific liking, a little like an unhemmed pair of pants. The small will still have sleeves fairly long in proportion to the rest of the jacket. Looks like the Indy 4 jacket is anywhere from around 1 inch above Harrison's knuckles to right above his knuckles, so I guess you would need to get those sleeves raised somewhere around an inch to an inch and a half.

Thanks for clarifying Flathead, but I was measuring the actual diameter so I could calculate the surface area of a cross-section of the sleeve.
