Del Carpio 8ft LC Finally here!! Pics and Video!!

Post by gi_canuck »

Hello Everyone, my Del Carpio 8ft LC whip finally came in yesterday!! It's a thing of beauty... I've only been able to practice with my 12ft ebay whip, so I had no idea what REAL whip would be like and man, Wow, what a difference.... First off the weight in the handle caught me kind of off guard... it really made it even more menacing... and the sound of whoosh going by your ear? Gives me chills when I even think about it... O h yeah, it sounds beautiful and vicious at the same time... you can really feel the power of the whip... I never got that with my 12 footer... I was able to crack the 12 footer, but never had that cool whoosh sound... and the second... when Del Carpio whip cracks, it sounds like a shotgun going off!! (Just check out my video below, you'll know what I mean) Holy smokes... my 12 footer doesn't even come close... The construction is solid... the braids are really well bound and really tight. Wow, since I've never owned a real whip before, I didn't know what to expect, but the only thing I can say is just Wow... If any of you guys are interested in buying a whip and you don't know who to go for? Definitely go with Del Carpio. He's an awesome guy to deal with... Emails you constantly and gives you updates about what's going on with your whip/shipping... even give you a preview photo of the whip before it gets shipped out!! A++ service and craftsmanship. Thank you Mr. Del Carpio!! Thank you Thank you and Thank you!!

Here are some photos for your enjoyment...

Beautiful whip. I know what you mean about the difference between a cheap ebay whip and a whip from a good whip maker. There is no comparison. I didn't realize that in my whip newbie days, but it was obvious when I received my whip from Bernie, just no comparison to what I had before.

I got forward crack and overhead crack pretty much... Still having problems doing forward/sidearm/underarm flick... These are as far as I am concerned very important cracks to know to get the series of multiple cracks going... When I am throwing say FORWARD flick... Do I flick my wrist to the left, right or up or down?? I was able to manage to get some crack once in a while, but still couldn't manage to get a consistent result... and the cracks I managed to get were really lousy... Any good advice please? Thank you!!

P.S. A lot of expert whipcrackers here mentioned that when you are doing those flicks, you are supposed to do it like throwing a baseball... I kept on try doing just that, but all I am getting is just whoosh... no crack... What am I doing wrong here...

Thanks Thousand Truths!! Personally, I don't think it's me... It's the whip that's doing all the work. As far as I know, I am just swinging it and trying to pose cool... the whip's cracking itself pretty much. Del Carpio is the man... Wow... Haha... Wish I'd be able to do different cracks though... Right now, the only GOOD cracks I can get are Cattleman and Overhead... Still working on the other stuff, but kinda hard... I've been cracking for about average 2 hours a day since I got the whip... It's soo much fun... The bystanders did give me weird looks though..haha... Oh well, who cares... Good thing we have this open grass field right next to where I live... it's sunken in and barely used by other people so it's a perfect place to practice the whipcracking.... so lucky...

Anywho , I think once I get some basics done, I'll try target whipping and wraps and etc... As my skills progess, I'll be sure to put some more videos up... Stay tuned!!

I have trouble with the forward flick, too. Kind of odd, because I can do the sidearm without fail and the underhand 80% of the time, but the forward flick just evades me.

I think part of the trick is to relax and try not to muscle it at all. Let the whip do all of the work. I know my sidearm flicks crack much louder when I don't put any effort into it at all...

Hi gi_canuck and WeeMadHammish,

With the forward flick you flick your wrist down. The trick is to swing the whip up behind you so it is straight out parallel with the ground and your wrist should be palm up, and then bring the whip forward in a straight line before the whip starts to float, and you flick your wrist right as your arm becomes fully extended in front of you. The important thing is to make sure the whip moves in a straight line perpendicular to your body(if you were looking overhead) the whole time from behind you to the front, otherwise the tip of the whip will hit you on it's way forward. Use the weight of the thong to your advantage, all you have to do is get the whip to move into a tight hairpin.

Check out this video:

And go to the 2:15 mark, and you can see it in slow motion.

I hope this helps.

And gi_canuck, you've got a great whip there! I was lucky enough to get a chance to crack it before it was shipped out. It has a great weight, and is perfectly balanced. You will get many many years of good use out of it, Congrats'!!!

Regards,

Paul Nolan

gi_canuck,

Thank you so much for the rave review! I've had the privilege of having some great comments before, but to date your review is the most enthusiastic of all. I don't think I've ever made someone so happy with one of my whips :D

Your pics and video look great. I trust your whip will provide you of many, many hours of whipcracking fun.

Thanks again!

Bernardo

Mr. Del Carpio, I meant every word I said. Your whip is amazing!! I think I used it so much, the original cracker is already being worn out... good thing I ordered some extras from you.

I cracked your whip even after the sun went down and man, it was beautiful... It was just me... the darkness and the beautiful sound of your whip whooshing by and occasional thunderous cracks echoing through all directions... It's exciting and calming at the same time... It's so much fun!! I don't know if anyone ever mentioned the whip cracking being an awesome stress relief method, but it sure was for me. Despite all the movement around you and the sound, it almost had the element of meditation like tranquility to it as well...

Now I got some great advices from everyone regarding the under/sidearm flicks... I'd better start practicing those... Hope I get to even do the Figure eight in the near future!! (That reverse cattleman crack is hard to do too...) I can foresee that I'd be getting a 10 footer from you in the near future... Thank you for everything!!
